Fake mask is either to protect or for evil intention

Humans are social beings, and they live in society. In society, there are various kinds of people. Some can be good, and some can be bad, and there is no way to fully understand if a person is good or bad. It’s because human thoughts are quite complex and difficult to understand. There are people whom we meet in society on a regular basis, and unfortunately, very few people actually share their genuine thoughts. It’s like people are trying to hide behind a face mask. The intention can be good or evil, both depending on the person.

There are many people who are going through various kinds of difficulties and struggling in life, but they are not showing their sufferings and struggles in front of others. Some people are going through mental pressure, and still they choose to hide it from people. They try to show their strength. If they don’t have real strength, they show fake strength, and they want the recognition of people in society. They are ready to suffer but not ready to share their fragile side. Why are people so persistent in keeping fake profiles? Is it necessary to keep a fake profile or achievement?

I don’t know too much about people, and I don’t try to understand everyone, as for me it’s not necessary to understand people. There is no way to understand if anyone is revealing their genuine self or the fake one unless there are any flaws. Even if I don’t pay attention, I can understand many things, as I am good at understanding human psychology, which gives me an advantage. Till now I have met many people, and, in my eyes, I figured out two reasons why people show their fake selves, and today I am going to share them.

The first reason is that the people in society are quite complex to understand, and it is very difficult to understand if anyone is a good person or a bad person. If we share our genuine thoughts or genuine self in front of good people, it has advantages, and they can guide us or help us in various ways. Their suggestions can help us make our suffering easier or overcome it. But what if the people are not good ones? They will try to take advantage of understanding our weakness. Even general people don’t try to understand, and they mock the person who is going through difficulties, and it gives extra mental pressure and adds more suffering to those people. Sometimes it’s hard to bear everything, and people choose to do something that actually harms them in return. That is the reason people try to show their good side and try to show they are an ideal person. Their intention in hiding their true nature is not to deceive others; they try to protect themselves from others. And if you don’t have the right to protect yourself.

There is also another type of person who always tries to show their good side in front of others. They are quite strong but don’t reveal their genuine nature. They pretend to be good in front of everyone and try to make a good profile. The reason for making a good profile is to take advantage of people. Actually, they usually have evil intentions, and they try to achieve something using a good profile when their genuine profile is almost the opposite. Such kinds of people are dangerous to society. Figuring them out is not so easy either. Their fake profile is the shield for their evil thoughts.

Your core point lands: most people are not lying in a cartoon-villain way, they’re protecting themselves. The image works well for that — the cracked metallic masks and exposed brain motif make the idea of a polished outer self vs. hidden inner pressure very clear.

Usually the “fake self” comes from two ugly but common forces: social survival and status management. People hide weakness because they fear judgment, rejection, or losing respect; psychology writing on social masking frames it as a defense for acceptance and belonging (Manhattan Psychology Group, Wikipedia overview). Research around self-presentation and stigma also ties that kind of masking to mental strain rather than real strength (PMC study, Aug 11 2024, ScienceDirect, Feb 15 2025).

A nice angle in your post is that you’re not just accusing people of being fake — you’re pointing out that some masks are worn out of pain, not arrogance. That makes the piece more human and less preachy. A related community angle shows up in this post by @merit.ahama about fake lives and social pressure online, which fits your theme from a different direction.

Your tutor says it all, sometimes the fake mask is for good and sometimes it is for evil. It is also hard to tell which a mask is meant for.

You were very clear and factual about your perspective. Honestly, there are so many reasons why people wear masks, and the two reasons you mentioned were nicely explained in the write-up. Thank you for sharing.
