Hello friends, today I will discuss with you the topic of Pollution is a sad reality in the southern part of Nigeria. The details are given below।
The southern part of Nigeria, especially the Niger Delta region, was once a paradise of natural beauty. Green forests, winding rivers, and abundant biodiversity were the center of the livelihood and culture of the villagers. But now a sad change has occurred here. The region is facing extreme disaster due to pollution.
This region is mainly famous for oil. For many years, various multinational companies have been extracting oil here. But due to the negligence and negligence of these companies, countless barrels of oil are spilling into the ground and water every day. There are no more fish in the rivers and canals as before. Those who used to make a living by fishing are now in despair. In addition to oil spills, gas flaring is also a big problem. Thousands of cubic meters of gas are burned into the air every day, which is destroying not only the environment but also people. This toxic gas mixes with the air and causes lung diseases, skin problems, and even cancer. Small children in the village are suffering from constant coughing and breathing difficulties these days, it seems to have become a normal thing here.
The saddest thing is that there are very few people who can speak out against this pollution. Those who have tried to protest have often been silenced, even threatened. There seems to be a kind of understanding between the government and companies, and no one listens to the people seriously. The once green forests have now been cut down in many places to build roads or oil pipelines. Due to cutting down forests, the fauna is losing their habitat. Many birds and animals are on the verge of extinction today.
However, all hope is not lost. Some local organizations and environmental activists are still trying to save the environment. They are making people aware, presenting information to the international community. But their struggle is not easy, because the opponent is very strong. I think that this pollution in the southern region of Nigeria is not only their problem, it is a warning signal for all of us. If we destroy nature in the name of development, one day that destruction will come back to haunt us.
Pollution is a global problem and not just in the southern part of Nigeria, it's everywhere.
The community next to my home villa has a plant station for these oil companies and we used to have an inconvenience feel of the gas flaring. It's so bad!
