If Wishes Were Horses

(edited)

If wishes were horses... I guess it's obvious that you already know where I'm leaning in this discourse. I remember as a kid, whenever we saw a certain kind of white bird flying, we would wish that it give us part of its white colour in exchange for ours. Funny that after it has passed, we look at our fingernails and when we see traces of white, we consider or believe that it happened. The naivety of a child though. We found it interesting that our wishes got “answered.”

Wishes are not bad. I think it's a good step towards getting what one desires. When a person wishes to buy a car, own a house, get a new phone, travel to a new place, get a job, pass their exams, or whatever their wish, it indicates a step towards that desire(s). Where the issue dwells is when we don't make the next step towards attaining or achieving that wish, which is the place of effort. Wishes without the necessary efforts or actions towards the intended results are a step, but towards nothing.

How about shooting star and the wish? First, I'll say I wasn't that familiar with the idea or I forgot rather because I seem to have witnessed it in one or two movies. Maybe because I haven't been watching movies that portray such. But I think I understand what that means. The shooting star idea is to make a wish when you see one. And as portrayed by some of these movies, the wishes come to pass for those who made a wish. I mean, this could be a good thing. That by such a wish, one could address many personal to global issues.

However, I don't see life working that way. Though some myths and the sorts would like to portray these as possible realities, I beg to differ. Once again, I don't think life works that way. Perhaps, we can make the wish, but we need to work hard towards it. I don't consider it plausible that when I see a shooting star, I make a wish and then all of a sudden it comes to pass. This is actually giving me Disney’s Cinderella and Snow White vibes. And we know that we only see these things in movies, fictional ones.

Have I seen a shooting star and made a wish? I don't think so. If it happened, then it was when I was younger, and like we did the bird case I talked about earlier, that would be it as well. I don't know if I can even actually recall seeing a shooting star. I know however that in some of those moments outside at night, while still a kid, we would look to the skies, at the stars and other bodies, we would say things and maybe make some wishes. Without shooting stars, I have my wishes in life. I don't wait for a star to make that. I also know that I need to make efforts to bring those wishes to reality.
