I can't even imagine that we come to a point where there's one last library and librarian in the world. But hey, that's what Sci-fi Multiverse makes us explore. The things we wouldn't normally imagine. And while I can't imagine it or rather, couldn't have thought of imagining something like this, I'm left exploring this thought. That's the power of imagination I guess. It takes you to where you wouldn't even expect. Sometimes, life's possibilities and realities are born from the place of imagination.
Back to the library talk. First of all, I think that would be an absurd situation. The presumed or supposed bank of knowledge from time past goes away, with only one left, and one manager of it. For those who seek knowledge and enjoy reading, especially as it relates to going to the library, it would be a total concern for them. I'm even thinking, where would this last library be situated or located? We have several continents, with many countries in them. Where could it end up being, and what would that mean for those who are not in that country or continent?
If one last library remains, with one librarian, I feel they would be cherished and cared for. This is to ensure that knowledge, books, information and whatever is gained from the library and the librarian’s services remain. While there's a substitute in the place of ebooks, which no one needs a physical library or even a librarian for, it will mean a lot to many for the sake of preserving something that is great.
I would be glad to see the library get preserved, and the librarian’s services as well. I would hope that there would be a multiplication or growth in other countries and continents. The books can be reprinted. The librarian can teach others and a lot more to bring about more libraries and librarians. There are people who enjoy hardcopy books more than soft copies. I think I fall into those who enjoy hardcopy books more, for some reason. Nevertheless, I can do with ebooks as well, though not that much as I would with hard copies.
So, in the case of something like that, I'll revert fully to ebooks. There's even that ease with mobility and then availability at almost every moment, since we carry our phones around. Ebooks will serve me, with my laptop and phone in place, till hopefully we get the libraries again, then I can have the hard copies as well to enjoy.
