Change Is Constant When Money is the Progenitor

I used to disagree with the popular saying "Money changes people" until I witnessed it up close and personal. Back then I could go to the end of the earth to prove that people will always remain the same (especially men) regardless of the drastic positive change in the social status. In my defense money doesn't really define who we are and it is solely a tool to achieve our objectives, nothing more and nothing less, boy was I wrong and my naivety hurled me into a world of hurt and disappointments. This shocking revelation not only shaped my perception of human behavior, it also limited my attachments to people.

Theophilus was my closest friend all through high school. We also sat together in classes, went back home together and even made time to interact even after school hours. Theophilus was way bigger than me and was always on the lock out, fighting off school bullies to defend me and since I was smarter I supported him academically. After school our friendship was still going strong as we always linked up every Sunday cracking jokes and having a good time.

A year after graduation, something felt extremely strange, I could not find Theophilus anywhere, his phone number was always unavailable and his siblings were not giving me any reasonable answer, it was as if he had vanished off the face of the earth and no one would tell me how. After weeks of desperately searching for answers, I finally heard rumors that he has traveled to India and did not want anyone to know. I was a little hurt but understood why he did what he did. I finally got hold of his Facebook account and we started talking again even though it was not as we used to back then.

My friend kept telling me how aggressively he was struggling to make a difference, secure the bag and change the stories of both our families. I did think much about it and wished him luck in his endeavors. A few months later I heard Theophilus was living it big as he was posting pictures of himself fondling with India currencies. I rushed into his DM to congratulate him for such a massive win but he never responded. I tried communicating with him a couple of times but still heard nothing back from him until he eventually blocked every means of me communicating with him. I guess he thought I was going to beg him for money or he felt we were no longer on the same level so there was no need for us to continue with a dying friendship, I'll never know but one things for certain though MONEY DEFINITELY CHANGED MY FRIEND AND ENDED OUR RELATIONSHIP.

Money is power and when it comes, there must be some sort of change even in the best of us. The moment some extra cash finds it's way into our lives, our taste changes. We start to crave expensive things, build attraction for the fancy side of life and even build new circle of rich friends. I remember when I worked my ass off and got hold of my first big pay day. The first thing that came to my mind was to buy that expensive luxurious clothing I could not afford before just because I knew I had enough to spare🀣🀣🀣.

So yes money is influencing enough to change anyone, I just pray when it finally comes my way I don't drift so far that I become unrecognizable to those around me...
Thanks.
