WHY COMPARISON STEALS JOY
Hello #Scifimultiverse family, I trust your day is going well. This topic is a broad one.
First, comparison can be defined as when people attempt to mirror themselves using other people successes and achievement as a reference point. It is just like one placing themselves and another person on a weigh bridge and looking at what they weigh using the other person's weight as a check list.
Comparison can be from the positive or negative. I learned recently that stress can be positive and negative. While negative stress is called "distress" positive stress is called "Eustress" A kind of stress that motivates a person to take positive action and do better. Hehe,it will be a story for another day.
Back to our theme, comparison can steal ones joy when it is negatively done. This is because life is a personal race and we need to move at our pace not others, however, comparing ourselves positively can spur us to action, raise our inner man and push us to do better and become better versions of ourselves.
On the other had, when we compare negatively with bitterness asking why somebody is doing and achieving more than us, we put ourselves into distress. It can cause a lot of issues for us including bitterness, redundancy, agony, anxiety and depression,
However, if we compare ourselves positively, we will see reasons to relate and form alliance with those we think are doing better than us to improve ourselves. Again, when we compare positively, it shines light on our path since iron they said sharpens iron, we will leverage on knowledge sharing to rise to stardom just like those we are comparing ourselves with.

I and my friend
I once had a friend in the professional space that compare myself with. I don't know that this guy was blowing up his salary range each time we discuss jobs and welfare packages. I would always go to his LinkedIn page to check what he has that was giving him such hype.
One day, he shared a job advert with me with a salary band and innocently, I reverted with. " My pay band don pass this one naa baba", wetin happen".? he dropped a voice note asking me to buzz him after work. To cut the long story, he opened up and told me that he want to leave his current place because of his pay band. I was quietly pinching myself while we spoke and touched other areas we need to work on professionally and left.
When I got home, I looked myself in the mirror and told my humble self to be calming down and stop internalising what people say and want others to believe about them. I learned to be grateful for where I am, appreciate myself, my little and big wins. I also learned to quietly and consistently work on myself while looking at peoples achievement as a point of improvement not to blame and punish myself. Improving to become better than I was yesterday because I am competing with myself and not anyone. Thank you.
