Hello InformationWar platform and the entire hive journalism lovers, I bring greetings to you from my lovely family. Do have a nice time ahead.
Information is truly power and what rules the world today. Bringing you news from Albania. Take your time to check the facts in the news today.
Albania has cut diplomatic ties with Iran and expelled the country’s embassy staff over a significant cyberattack nearly two months ago that was allegedly carried out by Tehran on Albanian government websites, according to the prime minister.Source
One of the fastest growing crime in this dispensation is cyber crime and many countries whose cyber security isn't strong enough have been hacked by private and cooperate hackers.
One of the instruments of foreign policy is smartness of a country over another and anything that will make a nation's national interest to prevail is allowed by such countries.
In July, the Albanian government website was attacked and Iran was allegedly spotted for that crime and today the Albanian government have cut ties with Tehran for the alleged cyberattack.
On July 15, the Albanian government issued a temporary ban on the Iranian embassy in order to investigate the alleged cyberattack on her country's website.
The government’s decision was formally delivered to the Iranian Embassy in Tirana in an official note, Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Wednesday.Source
The Albanian government has issued a 24 hours ultimatum for the Iranian Embassy to leave Albanian. This includes all staff, both diplomatic and security.
Rama said an investigation determined that the cyberattack was not carried out by individuals or independent groups, calling it a “state aggression”.
“The deep investigation put at our disposal undeniable evidence that the cyberattack against our country was orchestrated and sponsored by the Islamic Republic of Iran which had involved four groups for the attack on Albania,” Rama said in a video statement.Source
The investigations carried out has proven that the cyberattack wasn't done by any individual or independent group, but a country sponsored attack.
There's a corresponding support from the United States and her NATO members. According to the US:
“The United States strongly condemns Iran’s cyberattack,” National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson said in a statement. “We join in Prime Minister Rama’s call for Iran to be held accountable for this unprecedented cyber incident.”Source
To me the Iranian government isn't just facing the Albanian government for this cyberattack, but with the entire NATO membership since Albania is one of them.
I'll conclude by saying this, was the cyberattack an instrument of Iran's foreign policy, if it's so, then they should face the consequences that's attached to such an act.
