Militants kill 37, abduct six others in attack on Ugandan school
Greetings informationwar commumity. It's a beautiful day to share with you happenings around the world and today's post will be on the ugly incident that occurred in Uganda's border with the Democratic Republic of Congo.
It's so unfortunate that a boarding school at the border town between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo was attacked by militants linked with the Islamic terrorists group.
During the attack, a total number of 37 people were killed and six were abducted by the militants. Although there have been several controversies about the number of people that died in the attack. For instance, Privately-owned NTV Uganda television said on Twitter that the death toll stood at 41, while state-run New Vision newspaper said it was 42. New Vision said 39 of the dead were students, and that some of those killed died when the attackers set off a bomb as they fled.
According to defence spokesperson Felix Kulayigye, our personnel arrived after the assailants had left the scene of the incident and that the her military personnel chased the assailants to help rescue those that were abducted by the militants. The attackers, from the rebel group Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), fled towards Virunga National Park in Congo, police said.
The assailants, numbering about five, burnt down a dormitory and looted food, police and the military said.
A report from Major General Dick Olum, the army's commander for western Uganda, said that the attackers had stayed in the area for about two days to map out and mark their target before launching the attack.
"That is how the attackers came and locked the boys' door. The boys really tried to fight back, but they were overpowered. The attackers had lit mattresses," Olum told reporters from Mpondwe, according to a video posted on Twitter by the Daily Monitor newspaper.
"In the girls dorm, they found their door open, hence killing them and cutting them."
The above statement means that the military is very much aware of the presence of the militant group in the area, the question is why delay the mission to protect the lives of the deceased people. I may be wrong in my assumption.
It's quite unfortunate for those that lost their lives during this attack, this is a call on the government to biff up the security in areas were schools and other civilian populated areas within Uganda. Border patrol teams are supposed to be deleted to the bordering towns and villages to help protect the lives and properties of citizens.
