[Movie] Nowhere _ Motherhood Is Great.

Okay so Nowhere. Where do I even start with this one, Picture this, Spain, but not the Spain we know, a version that's fallen apart, civil war everywhere, people running for their lives, Mia and her husband Nico are two of those people, and Mia's pregnant, like really pregnant, about to pop kind of pregnant, they try to escape by sea because staying isn't an option anymore. Sounds simple enough right, get on a boat, leave, start over somewhere safe.

Except nothing about this movie lets you have simple, the ship gets attacked. Chaos everywhere, and somehow, in the middle of all that madness, Mia ends up locked inside a shipping container, and that container gets thrown into the ocean,
Just her,
Alone,
Floating,
No Nico,
No crew,
Nothing but water in every direction and a body that's about to go into labor whether she's ready or not.

And that's basically the whole movie right there, one woman, one container, one ocean, and a baby that's coming no matter what, and I won't lie, watching this stressed me out in a good way, if that makes sense, You are just locked in with her the whole time, dhe's hurt, she's scared, supplies are running low, and on top of surviving physically she's got to survive giving birth completely by herself with zero help, no doctor, no mother, no Nico holding her hand, just her own will keeping her alive.

Anna Castillo really did that though,she's carrying this entire film mostly solo, no one to act off of half the time, and she still makes you feel every ounce of exhaustion and fear and desperation like you are right there in that container with her, that's not easy to pull off, acting completely alone for that long and still keeping people hooked.

If I'm being real though, the only thing that bothered me a little was how thin the backstory felt, like, we know there's a war, we know the country's gone to a bad place, but we don't really get to sit with why or how bad it actually got outside of "this is why they're fleeing." I wanted a bit more of that world before getting thrown straight into survival mode.

But even with that gap, the survival part alone carries this movie hard, there is something about watching a mother fight that hard, injured, isolated, giving birth in the middle of nowhere, literally, that just guts you in a way that sticks after the credits roll.

So yeah, Nowhere isn't asking to be some deep political commentary, even though it flirts with that idea, It is really just about how far a person can push through fear and pain when there's someone else, someone tiny and not even born yet, depending on them to hold on.

And honestly, that's enough, that is more than enough.
