[Movie] The Wrecking Crew - Action comedy
I just finished watching The Wrecking Crew and I must confess, it was spectacular.. had me glued to my screen for the most part.... the movie is a action commedy starring Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista and honestly it was pretty much what I expected going in....
The movie is about two half-brothers... Jonny and James, played by Momoa and Bautista.. They don't really have much of a relationship, but after their father dies under suspicious circumstances they are both forced to work together to figure out what really happened. As they dig deeper, they uncover secrets involving a powerful casino developer and some hidden family drama...
The story itself isn't anything unfamiliar but What really makes the movie enjoyable is the chemistry between Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista.. Momoa plays the par of the wild and unpredictable brother while Bautista is more serious and disciplined but their personalities constantly clash, which leads to a lot of funny moments throughout the film.. You can tell both actors that were having fun with their roles and that energy makes the movie more entertaining.
The action scenes are exactly what you'd expect from these two. From the start we see plenty of fights, explosions, chases, and moments where things get completely out of control and truthfully Nothing about the action is particularly unique, but it's easy to follow and doesn't rely on overly shaky camera work. Sometimes that's all an action movie really needs.
One thing I wasn't completely fund of was the writing.. Some jokes got me laughing, while others felt forced or unnecessary... The villains and conspiracy plot also weren't very memorable.. By the time the movie finished I couldn't even remember most of the details behind the bad guy's plan... I think the story mainly exists to keep the action moving,and it doesn't really keep the audience In suspense about what's happening.
I did enjoy the Hawaii setting though.. It actually gave the movie a different visual compared to the usual action films that take place in big cities... The whole scenery was nice, and some of the supporting characters added a little extra fun to the story.
Overall.. The Wrecking Crew is exactly the kind of movie the trailer promised it would be... It's loud, simple, funny at times, and packed with action... It doesn't try to be anything more than that. If you're looking for a movie with a great story or something original, I'm sorry this probably isn't it But if you just want to just action, watch Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista argue, fight, and destroy things for a couple of hours, it's a pretty enjoyable watch.
For me, it's not a must-watch, but it's definitely a solid choice for a relaxed weekend movie night.
