[Movie] "Zootopia" Review: A Funny Mystery

It's a bit off to have reviewed the sequel of this animated movie before the first one. But it should be understandable since I saw the second most recently and I thought to check out the first part again, for like the 10th time because I've seen it over and over since after the first time. It's one of the sign that I love a movie, the many watches.

It's actually a surprise that the first "Zootopia" is 10 years this year, it still feels so fresh in my head from the first time I watched it. But I'm sure it had nothing to do with when it was released but more of how interesting the story in it is told. I'm a huge fan of animation movies with good music or comedy and this movie has the two of these.

I still think the first part was way better than the sequel but I totally love the consistency of the main characters in 1 & 2, and I mean Judy and Rick. It's why I can not say I didn't enjoy the sequel just as much as I did with the first part, because the two characters, Judy and Rick, that made me love the first made me love the sequel.

"Zootopia" is an animated movie released in 2016 starring Ginnifer Goodwin as Judy Hopps, Jason Bateman as Rick Wilde, Idris Elba as Chief Bogo and Jenny Slate as Bellwether. There are other characters alongside them who made the story complete with their roles. Each character brings their unique stories, like they are well developed.

The story is about a rookie bunny cop who has a big dream and actually achieved it but it's faced with a boss who isn't buying the fact that she could be an actual cop. She is made to work as a ticket officer, and she met Rick while on duty. Rick is a smart and street wise fox who is on a survival journey after his messed up dream.

The highlight of the story is, they both have to work together to solve a case that involves animals going savage in a city that once felt safe and peaceful for them. The two are not compatible so they disagree a lot but I'll say they are compatible because of how they somehow got to agree at last to solve the case in the end.

It's worth mentioning the villain of the story, Bellwether as I think her disguise was so good. I couldn't tell who exactly was behind the whole mess until the reveal and it made the story more intense, surprising and have a good suspense. The surprising characters in between made the viewer's journey fun and invested until the end.

I like that the movie made me laugh a lot, get scared at some point and wondering what next until the very end. Of course, it had a happy ending until the sequel came and showed a story I didn't think I needed to see, especially seeing Rick Wilde actually act as a Cop alongside Judy. It's a good movie and I'll recommend you see it.

One of my favorite animated film. I think this has so many layers and depending on when you watch it, you always learn something new. A truly timeless piece.
