[Movie] "Southside With You" Review

I had a very high expectation when I decided to see this movie, I've been so interested biography movies so a story about Barrack Obama sounded like a good rest time and with my screen. My cousin joined me to see the movie at first but stopped watching after a few scenes and stop by to check if something different had happened.

The reason was clear enough, even my expectations and excitement was cut short as I progressed into the story. It turns out the movie is focused on the first date Barrack Obama took his wife, Michelle on even though she kept saying it wasn't. Having to watch them on one wear from start to finish felt new to my cousin and I really.

"Southside With You" is a 2019 biography drama that shows the history of a very brief part of Barrack Obama's life, his first date with his wife, Michelle. The story starts in a day in the year 1989 in Chicago where two people meet for a work in a date way. Barrack gets set for the date without much efforts, Michelle isn't doing same.

The two meet and they have countless conversations that keeps revealing one thing about them after the other, especially their stand with politics, racism and other challenges in the country as at that time. I must say, the conversations were interesting and it continues.

I'll say the atmosphere of the story through out was calm, progressive and well planned even though they kept saying it's not planned. I especially like the little laughs that it got out of me, even though everything seemed serious about the work-date outing, especially when they stopped by a community meeting was fun to see.

Parker Sawyers as Barrack Obama and Tika Sumpter as Michelle Robinson made the story fun to watch too, I almost mistook them for the real life characters they played. But it's because I'm not familiar with younger Obama's face hehe. In any case, the story progressed nicely especially with how Michelle slowly fell in love.

One of the conversations I had with my cousin while I continued the movie was at the scene where Obama was asked to give a speech to calm the people down. He did it so brilliantly that even I could already see why he became who is today even though he may not have seen it then. I think it's one of the things Michelle fell for too.

I'm not reviewing the movie to recommend but for whoever is interested, it's a nice "one day" date that will give you beautiful moment at the ending so I'll say it's not a total waste of time, just lower your expectations and enjoy yourself.
