I'm pretty sure many won't like this movie for an obvious reason, it's a musical movie. And by musical, the characters actually sang in places they could have just said the words and we move to the next scene. But I hope it's not weird or surprising to know it is also for that reason I am seeing the movie for the 3rd to 4th time now.
Even more surprising fact is, I have come to learn almost all the songs that were featured in the movie. Well, the first time I saw this movie was like over 10 years ago if I can guess correctly and by that, I mean it's been such a long time and somehow I've been finding the songs in other places that have made me learn them for covers.

"Dream girls" is a 2006 released musical movie that is about three black girls, Deena Jones (starred by Beyoncé Knowle), Effie White (starred by Jennifer Hudson) and Lorrell Robinson (starred by Anika Noni Rose) who have the passion for singing, sings together and they meet an opportunity in the person of Curtis Taylor Jr. (starred by Jamie Foxx) who makes them trust in his plans to make them a big star out of them.

The three had to first sing as backups to the popular R&B singer, Jimmy (starred by Eddie Murphy) and then Curtis moved on to suggest that the lead singer be changed from Effie to Deena. It caused a ruckus between the crew and Curtis. Before and while all these were going on, Effies falls for Curtis, Lorrell falls for Jimmy but Curtis marries Deena and Jimmy has a wife so their love stories are quite unappreciated to us.

Personally, I think the character development of the main characters was not done properly as at some point, the story felt cumbersome or in a rush. I didn't even realize when it was 8 years later, with one of them have a child who's 8 years old already. But I must say, I appreciate each character in the roles they play, especially Effie and her brother (C.C. White starred by Keith D. Robinson) who is the brain behind all their songs.
And then, I love how the story teaches self discovery, self confidence and showing passion naturally with no fear. I learned that the movie is fictionally based on the story of how a group called "The Supreme later knowns as" Diana Ross & The Supremes". Even Curtis is based on the founder of the group. It's a good story but with lots of music and some annoying scenes.
