[Movie] A Blend of Comedy, Music and Heart: "Annie" Review
This movie have several adaptations but three stood out and the one directed by Will Gluck, starring Quvenzhané Wallis and Jamie Foxx releases in 2014 has got to be my favourite which is the one I'm reviewing today. Maybe I'm bias because honestly, I haven't seen the other adaptations. This one just feels perfect and okay!
It was released in 2014 and I don't know how I totally forgot I've seen the movie years ago in my teens until I downloaded last week to see it and a lot of scenes, memories and especially the songs starts coming back to me. I could almost sing along in the songs especially the first one. A clip I watched brought this movie back to me again.
Annie is a coming-of-age, musical and family drama with lots of comedy that explores the life of a little girl, Annie who grew up in a foster home under a mean foster mother. Her life changes when a business tycoon and mayoral candidate, Will Stacks makes a campaign move that required her staying with him for sometime.
The two begin to bond as she helps him grow not just in his political race but in his emotional life, he begins to see the world with more love and have growing concern for Annie. Her real (fake) parents came along the line but the plan failed and that made the two bond even deeper and decides to live as family forever with a new mum.
Annie's role in the story is so beautiful and lovable in every sense. How she speaks, her voice in singing and her calm looks got me loving her all through the story. I like how positive she remained even when she found the parents pretending to be real. Her role taught me positivity in every sense, how beautifully she welcomed the opportunities she got so randomly.
Will Stacks is also a character I had so much attention on through the story, his transformation in the story is one I'll say was well scripted. He went from hating kids, common or poor men and feeling comfortable not having any family to loving kids especially Annie and appreciating the joy in having a family, proposing to his assistant.
Other characters like Will Stacks' assistant, one called "Guy", the mean foster mother who turned good, the guy who loves the foster mother and the other kids at the foster home all played their roles beautifully to make the story nice to watch.
My best parts of the movie are the scenes with the musicals. If you love good music being sang in a story, you'll enjoy this movie. I've seen this movie for more than 5 times and all the other 4 times were just focused on the musicals. I especially love the song "The sun will come out tomorrow", "My big opportunity" and the song in the final scene. They had the best inspiring lyrics.
Maybe I'll find time to see the other adaptation but I could already concluded this would still be my favourite so maybe I won't see them anyways. The point is clear, this is a good movie and I'll highly recommend with a rating of 9.5/10 if you're in for a good family movie to see with your family that inspires love and bonding in hearts.
