This 2011 film, directed and written by Angelina Jolie in what marked her debut as a director, is set during the Bosnian War.
I have to admit that by the time I finished watching it, I was surprised the director was a very famous actress — not exactly one of my favorites — but I liked that she chose a subject that isn't often addressed.
In other words, there are plenty of war films out there, but films about relatively recent wars, not so many. What I didn't like is that the film revolves around a love story.
I won't deny that love is a universal feeling, but I'm rather tired of the fact that in every war film, horror film, Christian film, or science fiction film, it's always the main focus.
Setting that detail aside, the film has merit for presenting a story that was, at the time, largely ignored, and for depicting historical events that shouldn't be forgotten.
This time I won't include any spoilers, because most people will already have a good sense of what happened in the Balkans between 1992 and 1995, and can therefore decide for themselves whether it's a subject that interests them.

It will be interesting to see; war and love sometimes work. I'll have to watch it with my girlfriend and learn to live through war peacefully and with love.
