[Movie] THE SET UP

! [Spoiler] hidden text

I felt like watching a Nollywood movie today when I came across this movie on Netflix. It’s really interesting especially considering the caliber of actors that starred in the movie. The movie follows the story of two women who were ready to do anything to survive because of the circumstances surrounding them. Chike and Grace found themselves in the world of power and crime when they decided to work for a lady known as Madam. Madam specializes in exploiting wealthy people, and because she saw something in these girls, she decided to use them to continue her business.

Starting with Chike who just happened to be very intelligent and knows how to get people to trust her completely. She was recruited by Madam to help a business man marry a wealthy heiress only to discover there is more to the assignment and a lot that she was not told. She begins to suspect that there are hidden motives and she isn’t the only manipulator in the picture, and thus plans to understand the game very well before she becomes a victim. To be honest I would say her character was one intelligent person in the midst of intelligent people who are trying to play the people playing her.

But then what made the movie really interesting is the enmity or should I say friendship between Chike and Grace. These were two girls who came from the slumps together and now want to make it in life. What looked like a betrayal which I ended up believing turned out to be one of the biggest twists in the movie and I would really give it to them because if you are not someone who pays attention to details, you would miss the clues and realize late just like I did. But then I also think there were a lot of twists in this movie that made it hard to follow. At a point I had to go back a couple of times before I could follow through because I was getting lost at some point.

I was shocked when I realized that with all of the twists, Chike and Grace had their own plan, and the almighty Madam who thought she was the master of manipulation never saw it coming. They were able to read Madam like a book, think like her and anticipate her actions which helped them survive at the end of the day. This movie is a perfect example that we should never be too greedy especially when it comes to working with the powerful and influential. At the end of the day you can’t eat your cake and have it. The movie is good, I just wished there were less of those twists.

Awesome post! I love movies where the characters are constantly trying to outsmart each other. Even if too many twists can get confusing, it sounds like a very entertaining watch. Thanks for putting this Nollywood movie on my radar!
