[Movie] THE LAST AIR BENDER (2010)

I have been postponing watching Avatar the last air bender movie for a very very long time, and to be honest, I wish I kept postponing it because I did not like what I watched at all. I loved the Avatar animated series growing up, I even watched it as a young adult and loved it, but what the movie gave me wasn’t what I expected at all after following the animated series closely. This movie is a perfect example of how a great concept and even a legendary story can die if certain things are not in place.

There were a number of things that did not just sit well with me because I felt the movie deserved more and the producers did not do enough justice and felt the name alone would make it sell. But what is the point of making something sell only for it to get a bad review. The movie seemed rushed. I guess it just explained the whole point of why the animation broke it down into a series because if it could pass as a movie, it would have been a movie then.

The first thing that really pissed me off about this movie was the poor character development. The Aang I knew in the Animation was different from the one the movie showed. The Aang I knew was playful and carefree, the one just seemed too serious. Even their bending was wack. It was disappointing seeing fire benders needing fire whereas in the Animation they could produce fire from thin air. It was just martial arts and acrobatics they showed us, imagine earth benders doing all sorts of displays to move a small rock, you just know these people are not serious.

Then the fact that the story itself was rushed, there was almost no emotional connection with the movie. I remember how emotional I was watching the water tribe princess sacrifice herself in the Animation, in the movie it was just like any normal thing which made me feel the producers did not even watch the Animation before acting the movie, they just wanted to do something and get paid. The ending was just too vague and interesting, it was a complete waste of my time and I am not sure I want to watch part 2 that came out in 2026…
