[Movie] SNAKES ON A PLANE - AS CRAZY AS IT SOUNDS

Okay, so I finally got to see Snakes on a Plane and, come on, what more can I say about a film that's titled that way?

The title pretty much says it all. There are snakes. These are on a plane. Samuel L. Jackson is on hand. People are screaming. It gets really out of hand. But somehow this is what makes this movie so much fun.

The Plot
It's about a witness who witnesses a murder and is being accompanied by the FBI agent who is pursuing him, Samuel L. Jackson as Neville Flynn to Los Angeles from Hawaii. Things looked simple until one person decides the most effective method of murdering the witness is to unleash a bunch of deadly snakes on the plane. Why should anyone think of such a plan...?

But it's the best thing about this film because It doesn't matter how crazy the thought is... It goes hand-in-hand.

Then it's all chaos as the snakes come out.... There is chaos on the ground as passengers scramble and scream, people are being bitten, the crew is having to keep the plane under check, and Samuel L. Jackson is doing everything to prevent everyone from going nuts.

Samuel L. Jackson Carries the Whole Thing
The movie is obviously a success, mainly because of Samuel L. Jackson. He's very serious about his action hero stuff in an insanely crazy story. The weird or funny situations are even funnier when he's playing all things straight. The moment he comes on screen, you know something is going to happen..

And yes, we do have that iconic phrase at the end.. Finally, when he loses his temper with the snakes, it is as if all the movie had been leading up to that moment.

The Passengers
The mix of passengers is a pretty weird group of typical disaster movie characters—the nervous, the annoying, the flight attendants trying to keep everyone alive, the guy who thinks that he knows more than everyone else, and a bunch of people who make the kind of stupid mistakes that go in the handbook for anyone in a horror movie. But some of them are likeable, and I found myself getting really into figuring out who would live or not.

The Chaos Itself
The snake attacks are the part of the film that really goes wild. Some effects have clearly been worn down over time... it's clear some are computer-generated and others are rubber props... like, it was very obvious... but funny enough I didn't mind that particularly.... It almost gives the old school movie vibe.

What Works
I really liked the movie for being self-aware, and knowing exactly what it is. It's not being The Dark Knight. It's not trying to win an Oscar. It is not intended to impart to us some profound message on human nature. It's the story of snakes running amok on an airplane, in actuality. And come on, I admire that.

I also believe that the limited setting is very effective. Imagine being in an airplane when everything is normal then imagine being thousands of feet up in the air and hundreds of poisonous snakes crawling in the cabins. Yeah. No thank you.

There are points in which the film is able to build some good tension as the characters have little choice in where to go. It's not as if they get to run outside. They cannot move from one place to another until the plane lands, which means that each problem has to be solved while they are still in the air. That part works.

Even though it does its best.Although it tries its best.
The most difficult thing for me is the repetition in the movie. It's just after a while, it's the snake attack, people scream, Samuel L. Jackson tries to solve the problem, another snake appears, somebody gets bitten... and repeat.

The supporting characters are also not very developed. Most of them are nothing more than a pawn to the game or a meal for the snake. However, I think no one was here for character development. I've come here to witness Samuel L. Jackson's snake-fighting skills on a plane. And the film stepped up to the plate.

In the end, I was caught in between being a part of the madness becaeuse even though It's silly and loud and cheesy and at times, entirely ridiculous, but it entertains well.
