[Movie] JURASSIC WORLD- REBIRTH
I love dinosaurs... I basically grew up watching Jurassic Park, so whenever I hear there's another Jurassic movie coming out a small part of me gets excited but at the same time, the last few movies haven't exactly given me much reason to expect something amazing so when Rebirth started, I was basically thinking, "Please just give me some good dinosaur action." And thankfully, it was everythingI hoped for.
The movie takes place five years after Jurassic World Dominion, with dinosaurs now mostly living in isolated parts of the world because the planet isn't really suitable for them anymore. A pharmaceutical company discovers that the DNA from three particular dinosaurs could be used to create a potentially life-saving drug, so a team is sent on a dangerous mission to collect samples.
Scarlett Johansson plays Zora Bennett, a former military operative who's basically the muscle of the group then Jonathan Bailey plays Dr. Henry Loomis, the dinosaur expert, while Mahershala Ali plays Duncan Kincaid, the guy responsible for getting everyone where they need to go and honestly I just liked this group.
Scarlett Johansson fits the action role really well. Zora is tough, confident and knows what she's doing, but she is not completely invincible... Jonathan Bailey brings a different kind of energy as Henry... He's the scientist who is fascinated by dinosaurs but also has to deal with the reality of being chased by them and Mahershala Ali is just naturally likeable because its no news that every time he was on screen, the movie felt a little more enjoyable.
I also liked the chemistry between Zora and Henry. There are little moments between them that give the movie some personality, especially when they're not running for their lives.
But let's be honest...
We're here for the dinosaurs.
And when the dinosaurs show up, the movie becomes a lot more fun.
There are some genuinely tense sequences in this film, seems like the filmmakers clearly wanted to bring back some of that old-school Jurassic Park feeling where you don't always see the dinosaur immediately but you know something is nearby and that suspense worked for me.
There were moments where I was actually sitting there thinking, "Please don't go in there." Like they could actually hear me then of course, they go in there and that's one thing I appreciated about Rebirth... It doesn't just constantly throw dinosaurs at you... There are moments where it allows the tension to build before showing you what everyone is running from.
I also liked the fact that the movie feels more like a survival adventure than the previous films because here, we're not dealing with a giant dinosaur theme park instead We're following a group of people going into dangerous territory where basically everything can kill them and that gave the movie a slightly different feeling, even if the overall story is still very familiar.
I think my only problem with it was the story...
It's not terrible, but it's very predictable right from the moment the pharmaceutical company explains why they need the dinosaur DNA, you can pretty much guess where things are going.. There's the secret agenda, the dangerous mission, the dinosaurs, the people who make stupid decisions and then the inevitable fight for survival.
The environments are beautiful.. The islands, water, forests and even the caves, they all give the dinosaurs a huge playground to terrorize people in... There are also some really cool shots where you get to appreciate just how massive these creatures are...
Even after all these years, seeing a huge dinosaur walk into frame still has an effect because truthfully I don't care how many times I've seen a T-Rex, When that thing shows up, I'm still watching.
What I liked most about Jurassic World Rebirth is that it feels like the filmmakers understood that people don't necessarily need the franchise to become more complicated....
Sometimes we just want dinosaurs chasing people.
That's just it.
And Rebirth gives us that.... It's not trying to reinvent the entire franchise, and maybe that's why some people will find it too familiar.
