[Movie] My Review on: "Ride On"

I've been navigating and watching some of Jackie Chan's movies since last week, and Ride On was the next on my watch list even though I didn't know what to expect when I started watching it. Though I was still expecting a little bit of those crazy stunts that I grew up watching, comedy and fighting scenes.

But what I didn't expect was watching a movie and imagining myself growing older or losing any loved one and feeling somehow about it after. That was what made me watch this movie anyway.

Jackie Chan played or acted as Lao Luo in this movie. And I loved the new dimension he took in this movie as a stuntman who has spent quite a good number of his life working with horses, but at a point in his career, he started struggling even financially so that he was barely able to hold it all together.

I like the fact that they didn't make him look like a superstar or a successful action hero. He maintained his age but broke, and at times, he gets frustrated and desperate, but in everything he does, he shows his pride.

I like how he treated his horse, Red Hare, and the type of close relationship they shared, which I can say is my favourite part of the movie probably. I never imagined or pictured myself to be attached to a horse, but I was in this movie because the way Jackie Chan connected with his horse was so genuine. He didn't treat the horse like a property that he could be using anyhow. He took him as his family and friend. And it made it more clear how difficult and painful it was when financial problems made him consider giving Red Hare away.

And I also like Lou's estranged daughter, Mickey. Though both didn't have such a perfect relationship, and it even made the movie more realistic for me. Neither got along easily, and it brought up a hurt and small disagreement between them due to the fact that Luo was always after his work and she needed him.

And I like how he tried his best to repair their relationship slowly. I like those scenes more than the action scenes because I felt emotional.

At some moment while watching this movie, I liked how the lawyer that Mickey was involved with added his own humour to it. Because he showed that he understood contracts, just like how Luo understood his horse and stunts much better. I felt their contrast.

Even though Jackie Chan looks old In this movie, he was not too old to go perform some of his stunt sequences that showed that he still had something special in him. I always enjoy watching all those stunts of his because I grew up watching them.

Even though I enjoyed every bit of this movie, I don't like how some parts felt unpredictable. I could easily picture where some parts were going to in my head, which I didn't really like because I like suspense.

What I can easily say about this movie is that Luo was a type of person that spent a great number of his life doing what he loved, so he forgot that there are some people in his life that still need him. The biggest challenge he faced was after he realised that, he started learning how to reconnect with the people he left behind.

Yeah, it was a very good watch for me. I enjoyed it because it was emotional, fun, and what I needed. It was much more than just another action movie. So for me, Ride On deserves my 9/10.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to review this movie, and I appreciate you all for reading. See you all in my next review.
