[Movie] Terminator 3: Rise of The Machines

One thing that the first two Terminator movies establish is that knowing what the future holds doesn't necessarily mean you can escape it and in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, that question returns, but this time, John Connor is older and trying to live without drawing attention to himself.

After the events of Terminator 2, John played by Nick Stahl lives off the grid. He has no fixed home, avoids technology that could expose his identity and struggles to find his place in a world where the future he was warned about has not yet happened. He wants to believe that Judgment Day can be avoided, but he isn't entirely convinced that humanity is actually safe.

Unfortunately, a new Terminator, the T-X played by Kristanna Loken, arrives from the future with a mission to eliminate people who will play important roles in the coming human resistance. John soon found himself in danger again, and another Terminator, the T-850 acted by Arnold Schwarzenegger is sent to protect him.

However, this time the threat goes beyond one person being hunted. The machines' growing influence over computer systems and military technology brought the possibility of a much wider disaster closer. Kate Brewster acted by Claire Danes also became central to John's struggle, and their unexpected partnership adds another dimension to the story.

Arnold Schwarzenegger returned with the familiar deadpan delivery and physical presence that made the character memorable. Kristanna Loken is a convincing opponent, and the T-X's ability to control other machines makes her a different kind of threat from the T-1000 in the previous film. Nick Stahl gives John a more troubled, uncertain personality. He is no longer the confident boy we followed in the second part of the movie but he is someone still trying to understand his responsibility and what the future expects of him.

The movie delivers plenty of chases, explosions, fights and machine versus machine action. However, compared with Terminator 2, some of the humour felt excessive, and the emotional connection between the characters is not really strong. The story also relies on familiar elements, so as a viewer, I was kind of expecting the same sense of surprise and character development as the second movie.

Still, what I find interesting is the movie's exploration of humanity's dependence on technology which still stays relevant till date. People build systems to make life safer and more efficient, but what happens when those systems gain control over decisions that humans can no longer reverse?

The movie Terminator 3 directed by Jonathan Mostow, continues the central conflict while taking John Connor into a new stage of his life. It may not have the same impact as its predecessor, but it has its own place in the story and for me, its biggest strength is the reminder that avoiding a problem is not the same as solving it. Sometimes, the future we fear is still approaching while we convince ourselves that ignoring it will make it disappear.

I'll be dropping my 🖊️ here on the movie review

I remember how much I liked this movie as a child because I used to watch it countless times on television every time it was broadcast. Now that I see it, I realize it should never have existed. The second Terminator film had a perfect ending thanks to James Cameron. Giving it a sequel didn't make sense, at least not for the story itself. Even the characters returned in a way that disappointed many. Even I expected John Connor to be more... I don't know, cool. But hey, the visual effects, the action, and the explosions don't disappoint, of course.

Good review.

Pese a tener mejores efectos y una atractiva antagonista femenina de fórmula, esta es la película de Terminator que menos he disfrutado, aunque me parece entretenida y sí me gusta. ¡Buena reseña, te dejo mi upvote!

Even though it has better effects and an attractive, formulaic female antagonist, this is actually the Terminator movie I've enjoyed the least — though I still find it entertaining and I do like it. Great review, leaving you my upvote!
