[Movie] STRAW - A Story of Every Struggling Single Parent

Straw is a movie I can keep watching all over and over again, times without numbers without getting tired of it. A movie that calls for respect for every single parent singlehandedly raising a child or children, no or little support from people around and still pushing through the odds just to raise a great nation.

Straw is a Tyler Perry's movie that raised the horns of single parents especially single mothers, recognized how far they could go for their children and the struggles they face. A movie that expressed how a life can easily transform just in a matter of few hours from bad to good and good to bad. A role which Taraji P. Henson represented Janiyah so well by raising a girl child who underwent complications at birth and since then experiences seizures.

It doesn't end with the stress of raising a full attention kind of a kid but the stress of affording a shelter became a problem too and also from Janiyah's workplace, there was no rest of mind. Although all these may seem much but Janiyah still chose to be strong and all these was for her baby Aria until this fateful day when everything went fully south.

Janiyah was meant to go to her child's school as requested by her teacher, her boss gave her an infeasible 30mins to go and be back to work and still refused to give her her paycheck. ATM wasn't dispensing the little she had left in her account just so that her child can have her lunch and she would have to wait on the queue. This wouldn't work as she will eventually be late for her child's school meeting.

The frustration didn't end at that but went on to knowing that her baby Aria was about to be taken away from her because the teacher laid a complain against her about not taking care of the girl and also that she hasn't been eating well. Left to me, if I could judge from my screen and deal with the teacher, I wouldn't hesitate to give her a knockout slap.

Dealing with this was not enough, until she ran into a policeman on her way back to work and also threatened to kill her if he has the chance again. She got back to work and was fired because she used 2hours instead of 30 minutes and was not given her payment until after 3 days. She got evicted out of her apartment and her stuffs were drenched under the rain, and before the end of that very same day, she was in a position to be called a murderer and a bank robber.

I don't know if I should tag it a happy ending or a sad ending. The moment she was gun down by the FBI and Nicole, the bank manager rushed to her made tears dropped from my eyes until I got to realize it was just her imagination.

Straw is worth watching and I won't say there's higher priority of watching for single parents alone but by everyone so that we can know how to appreciate and support people who are struggling to live. Not because we have to carry their burden of wrong choices and decisions with them but because we never know what bad situation we may be saving with our little moral support.
