Guess what guys, I spent the best 2.5$ of my life yesterday, and that too on junk food. Wait!!!, before you criticize me for spending that much money on junk food, let me tell you in detail what the junk food was and how i came to spend that much on it. I know so many people out there see 2.5$ as just chicken change, it’s nothing to some people, but in my part of the world where our accepted currency is naira, 2.5$ is quite a big money, especially in this our Tinubu regime. Spending 2.5$ on junk food is seen as a waste of money, this amount of money is considered to be a chicken change when it’s seen in dollars, but once it gets converted to naira, it automatically becomes a big money…
The conversion rate right now on bybit is 1,498 naira for a dollar, which makes 2.5$ to be around 3,745 naira in total. Well, this is not actually the point, the point right now is that the junk food I spent 2.5$ on yesterday was SHAWARMA. The highest amount of money I’ve ever had to spend on shawarma since I started eating it was 1$, which happens to be around 1,500 naira in Nigeria currency. Yesterday happened to be the very first time i spent that much on shawarma. I spent 3,500 naira on just shawarma yesterday, and that’s like my earning for three days on the hive blockchain on a regular day, but on a good day it’s my earning for a day (2.5$)…
On a normal day I won’t spend that much on shawarma, even if i’m going to spend that much, i would be having about two shawarmas made for that big amount, but over here in Lagos, that big amount of money is just the price for one shawarma…
I made a quick trip to Lagos yesterday to visit my elder sister who resides there. She has been there for years because that’s where her workplace is situated, and because that place is quite far from the house, she had to settle down in a place not too far from her workplace to cut down on transportation cost. She has been living here for years so it’s fair to say she knows her way around by now…
I was on the call with her weeks ago, and from random conversations we delved into food talks, just before i knew it she was telling me about the delicious shawarma she had a couple of days ago and how rich it was. She knew Shawarma is my favorite junk food, so I couldn’t hide my excitement and curiosity to ask more questions. She gave a detailed explanation of how delicious it was, and was going on and on about how I’d love it. I was already creating a picture of me devouring it in my head before I brought myself back to reality. What brought me back to reality was the thought of the price, since it’s in lagos, the price would definitely be different from the ones i buy in my state…
I asked her for the price and she said it’s 2.5$, i screamed, that’s like 3,745 naira in Nigeria currency. Immediately, i told her i was allergic to shawarma, she then smiled and said i shouldn’t worry and that my first treat would be on her whenever i come visiting, i smiled and calmed down after hearing that…
I knew the shawarma would worth it, and that’s because my sister wouldn’t pitch it to me if it didn’t worth that amount, therefore i believed her and took a leap of faith…
Yesterday, i landed at her place in the evening with the thought of finally getting to taste that highly pitched shawarma upon my arrival. I got there and immediately demanded to have that shawarma for dinner. The amount of money i saw in her wallet discouraged me, she had just a dollar in her wallet and my hope came crashing down. I thought of giving up, but then my mind has been fixated on having it since she mentioned it, so there was nothing i could do. If i want it, I’d have to get it with my money, which was what i later did…
I didn’t know how item7go looked, not until yesterday. I have never been there before, so i just followed the directions given to me. I left my sisters house some minutes to 7pm and got there in just 30 minutes. I got there and the number of people that were at that location presently were mind blowing. I could see lots of cars parked at the parking lot, there were queues in different sections, this included the payment queue, shawarma queue, and party rice queue. I got tired upon seeing that large number of people, but then I couldn’t give up because i am there already, so i followed through with my plan…
I didn’t know what to do and also didn’t want to ask anyone, so i decided to observe before taking any action. After some minutes i went to the Transfer payment queue to place my order for Chicken Shawarma and also make payment immediately, there were queues for both cash payments and POS payments also. I transferred my money and got my receipt and order number…
I left that queue to go submit my receipt at the shawarma queue for my order to be processed. I was told to go to the waiting area where I would be called upon when my order is ready. I didn’t go too far and also decided to explore the whole area because the place was a sight to behold. I brought out my phone to take some pictures. The interesting thing was the big water fountain just right outside the building. I waited for over 30 minutes, just as i was about to walk around again, i got called upon to come get my order. I went to the counter and picked up my order…
I left there immediately because it was late already, some dramas happened on my way back home but i landed home safely. I sat on my bed to unwrap my 3500 naira package…
I sat down on the bed and unwrapped the shawarma, what i saw in the foil was mind blowing. This shawarma was as big as my palm, I couldn’t conveniently wrap one of my palms around it, so i had to divide it into two equal parts, that way i’d be able to enjoy it quite well…
My first bite was a delightful one, it’s a bite i will never forget in a lifetime. I bit down on a big piece of marinated chicken wrapped in the veggies prepared with mayonnaise sauce. I couldn’t chew too fast because my mouth was full, so i ate with style. I enjoyed every bite slowly, while making sure the flavor of the chicken lasted seconds before i gulped it down my throat. After about 20 minutes i was full, I couldn’t eat the rest, but then i had to force myself to finish the last portion. Although i shared it with my sister, but what i ate was more than hers…
In summary, i won’t deny it, that shawarma worth every penny i spent on it. I don’t regret buying it. It’s the best I’ve had so far and i will definitely try it again upon my next visit, until then, be good and look forward to more of my contents…
