The Fire Behind The Phrase, "I must make it in life"

Have you found yourself oppressed, looked down on, incited, and neglected all because you couldn’t measure up? Then, you see others finding it so easy to get things without struggling, and your subconscious mind says, "I must make it in life.”

Money is good. Money makes sense out of nonsense, and when you consider the circumstances surrounding this, you feel that your value has been disregarded and that someone who doesn’t merit it is being favoured, and because of money, big connections, etc., they receive it so easily. It hurts many times, and at that point, all that matters is your determination to make it as you said, whether in the right or wrong means.

Sometimes, we also need to be careful so our determination isn’t driven by the intention of impressing others because you feel the vengeful spirit in you and want to get back at them because of how they made you feel inconsequential. It happens a lot.

I have found myself many times, whether alone or with a group of people, where I unconsciously and most time consciously say I will make it in life because of what I have seen around me. Who doesn’t want a comfortable life? Who doesn’t want to get things without struggling to get them? Who doesn't want to be respected and carried in high regard? We all do, of course!

I have many instances of this, but one I would share was when I went on a vacation with my sister two years ago. She’d wanted to go on a vacation where she desires to see the Ikogosi water spring at Ekiti State, where cold and warm water meet and then the Idanre Hills located in Ondo State, where you climb over 660 steps to get to the high top.

She travelled down to Ondo, where I was schooling at that time, and we both lodged in a hotel for two nights. You see, I knew money spoke in her life. God had elevated her so that when she was sharing lots of experiences, and how God came through for her, I realised there are things money can do for someone and make you enjoy some luxuries. She told me of a sneaker she ordered online, and when she mentioned the price, oh boy, I didn’t know when I opened my mouth in surprise and admiration, and in my mind, I was saying, “I will make it in life. I will get there, too.”

Even the hotel we lodged in wasn’t just an ordinary one. My sister intentionally picked the best of the hotels in Ondo, even when I was finding one of such, I was going for the lower prices, limiting her ability, but when she told me her budget, I knew money was speaking. But you know, she didn’t just get to this place without sacrifices and determination.

That moment made me reflect more that I couldn’t sleep on time because I was thinking of ways to make it happen and, most importantly, trusting God to get me there by His way and not the opposite, contrary to His. Money is good, and yes, I will get there someday.
