Good day, people of Hive! Welcome to my blog. Today's topic is from Hive-Naija, which says:
What's one thing in your life at the moment that you think you need to sacrifice to be able to move forward. So, let’s dive in.
The one thing I’m ready to sacrifice in order to move forward is my "comfort zone". I realize that I need to let go of being comfortable if I truly want to grow or move forward. Don’t get me wrong—being comfortable is not bad, but staying in the same place for too long, doing the same thing every day, and avoiding new things has been holding me back.
There are things I’ve always wanted to do, like learning a new skill, but I’ve been procrastinating because they seem hard. I always tell myself that whenever I’m ready, I’ll continue my fashion design work, instead of starting now—when starting now could actually help me in the future.
Being comfortable makes life feel easy. That’s why most people don’t know what the real world is like. They don’t work. All they do is wake up, do some household chores, eat, sleep and that’s all. To them, it’s like, Why work when I have parents to provide everything for me. Being comfortable means no pressure, no fear, and no stress. But let’s not forget if we are always comfortable, we will never grow.
That reminds me of Sunday when we went for church service. During the sermon, when the pastor asked us to stand up and pray, I noticed a lady who didn’t even bother to stand. She was just busy pressing her phone. In my mind, I said, “I don’t think this girl has any regard or respect for God.” Unknowingly, my brother also noticed. After the service, on our way home, my brother said he noticed the lady didn’t stand up, and he said he didn’t blame her. Because if the lady was the one providing for herself, she would understand the reality of life. Since she’s a student, maybe it’s her parents who are providing everything for her. That’s why she’s comfortable and behaving that way.
I’ve seen a lot of people around me trying to learn and do something for themselves, and they’re getting better. It’s not that they’re perfect, but they’re making progress. I want that too. I don’t want to look back and regret not trying, because that kind of regret is the one that lasts forever. I don’t want fear or laziness to stop me from achieving or becoming the person I’m meant to be.
Letting go of my comfort zone means doing things I’ve never done before, like facing the crowd. I’m someone who can’t face the crowd because I’m scared I’ll stammer and people will laugh at me. But I want to try new things, even if I fail. I know it won’t be easy, but I will try my best to let go of my comfort zone so I can move forward.
For example, let think of a child learning how to walk. At first, they will fall because they’re not strong yet. But they keep trying. And eventually, after all the hardwork, they start walking. That’s how I see it, if I don’t try to leave my comfort zone, I’ll never achieve anything or know what I’m truly capable of. Right now is the time to stop waiting for the perfect moment or opportunity, because that moment may never come. The best time to start is now.
In conclusion, I know that leaving my comfort zone is hard and not easy at all. But I will try my best to leave it behind, so I can move forward and become someone in life. I’ve made up my mind, I want to grow and become someone. I want to do more and become more. Because nothing good comes from staying the same forever. It’s high time I take that bold step forward.
