Saturdays are popularly known as OWANBE SATURDAY in this part of my world. It simply means party time; it could be a birthday party, it could be a wedding ceremony, it could be an anniversary—just name it. But just know that lots of people fix their parties to suit office workers, and that's Saturday, and so far, I have attended lots of parties, including one that lives rent-free in my head.
Chai...this owambe I went to was on another level. I can't even forget the experience in a hurry. It was fun anyway but not totally fun because they deprived me of party jollof rice. You don't have to joke with my party rice for anything, lol...the taste is usually different from the jollof rice we cook at home, so it's not a matter of I can afford jollof rice"...the party one is usually extraordinary; I don't know why or how, lol. I am still pained whenever I remember that day when my food expectation was cut short, because imagine craving hot party jollof rice, and just before it got to my turn, the rice finished, with not even another type of food to salvage the situation!
This owambe wasn't just for a passerby friend. It was the wedding of my good friend, and she requested that we, her friends, sew Asoebi cloth for her wedding.
I spent my hard-earned HBDs 😉 buying the material and sewing it; the tailor almost cut my head with her charges, but I pulled through, lol…then I bought a yummy gift for the bride... I was well prepared, waiting for the D-day!
To worsen the situation, I didn't eat food while leaving my house because I needed to make room in my stomach where the party jollof was going to fit ...only for me to get disappointed! I was angry... I no go lie oo 😃.
Going home, traffic was everywhere...no vehicle at all…even if I see a vehicle, it doesn't move an inch because of the traffic tie-up. People resorted to trekking, and I followed suit...lol.We started trekking it...for two hours, I was trekking on the road with an empty stomach and with my shoes in my hands because the heel is too much to do the trekking.
What did I not see from that single owambe experience? All my slaying queen mentality was shattered in a few minutes; nothing mattered anymore but how to get home and refuel my energy with correct semolina and egwusi soup...hahaha. If this is how every owambe usually happens, then no one will be excited to attend, but I guess it's just one of those rare experiences of life.
I learned to lower my expectations from that event experience. Since that day, I don't leave my house for any owambe Saturday without first getting my stomach satisfied to avoid similar drama. @princessbusayo as you refused to show me your owambe attire, I have done justice to it , but that was motivated by @funshee 😉, so thank her! Lol

Chai, you really saw shege on that day, from leaving your stomach empty for a party jollof that never gets to you, and to a mad traffic.
So sorry it happened. Things like things happen sometimes. Like you said, having high expectations going to a party at times gets one disappointed.

Hahaha ...maybe, I shouldn't skip front seat next time 😃
You could try that too.
It was unfortunate such a thing happened with you. I would feel the similar if I were in your place. I don't think that you expected too much. It was just the day was not in your favor. That's all. But it's good to have low expectations. It help us to satisfy us early.
