Over here in this part of the world, the superstitions are just off the charts. As a country with over 300 ethnic groups speaking over 500 languages, of course there will be diversity in culture which can be colourful but also suffocating sometimes. When it calls for it, the traditions can be a blessing and then a curse too. One of the very marks of these in Nigeria is superstitions. To each his own, well I’ll say that we as Nigerians just know how to take it beyond the roof.
Until I became old enough to think for myself and decide what I liked and didn’t, I grew up with the fear of cats. Out of 10 Nigerians, 9 won’t like cats and out of that 9, 8 don’t like them because they are used for the devil’s work. Not like they have seen it happen, that is just what they have been fed with. It was the same with me. I was so scared of cats because my mom and everyone around me told me that wherever I see a cat, it is a witch or demon. Especially black cats. As I grew, I realised this was just a lie that had been passed down for generations by ignorant people who aren’t willing to look past what they don’t like. If cats can be the devil, then dogs would definitely be their masters.
Another lie I was told was that burying parts of my hair makes it grow back. I was very religious with that. Once I comb my hair, I would take the fallouts and respectfully bury it in the sand. Safe to say that it was nothing but a bullshit lie. Taking good care of your hair is what gives you the result not the ground. I also remember the lie where I was told by my mom that a boy merely touching me would get me pregnant. I avoided bodily contact for a long time until I learned in class that I needed to have sex for that to happen. I remember feeling like an idiot. Now, I'm curious as to what lies people must have been fed. You can share yours in the comments.

Hahaha. I think a boyfriend I had is the one who told me more lies!!! hahaha. I am afraid of cats, a terrible phobia and the worst thing is that cats chase me. I imagine I was a witch in another time. As for getting pregnant, it would surprise you to know that there are women who get pregnant just by smelling their husband's panties. hahaha. I liked this topic and the way you approached it Greetings.
Hehe those are crazy @deraaa
Of course over here a black cat crossing your path is thought to bring you good luck.
Hair is all to do with genetics, I was blessed in that department, but being married to a hairdresser and owning a salon I know all about that!
As for getting pregnant we do joke that some women do just have to look at a man to get pregnant. Fertile Mirtle indeed!

LOL. That last line, you guys have a joke like that? Yeah that made me laugh. Hair and genes here, we need a lot of products! We are not blessed in that department, except for the armpits.
