Don't PMO!

Everyone experiences change in some form. The things that made you happy when you were five, inarguably, became difference once you turned thirteen, changed again when you turned sixteen and again when you turned twenty, and so on. The things that excited you then may still be the same at your core now, but you would agree that there are significant changes now.

I think that applies to anger. Or better put, the things that would get you annoyed or irritated. I know for sure that when I was eight years old, I hated when people would just call my surname incessantly or maybe write on my notebook when their handwriting is clearly different from mine.

I know also that up until when I was sixteen and even now, I think, I would be irked beyond belief if I was going to do something. You clearly see that I’m about to do that thing, and still mention it anyway. My rationale would be that you want to make it look like the only reason I did that thing is because you told me to. And that, brethren, is annoying.

Currently, I’m wary of conversations and even more weary when I see that the conversation is steering towards a weird angle. I get irritated q lot when I hear things like, “You know as a woman you should,” “You know as a woman you shouldn’t,” “Men like it when you...” “Men don’t like it when you...” Let me tell you guys for free. I have sensitive skin and based on how I react, my roommates have concluded that it’s a mind thing. Once I get irritated, I feel this itch that pisses me off. Irritating statements like these.

I wish I could be bothered but I genuinely cannot stop rolling my eyes till they almost fall off if a conversation sounds like this or is similar to this. Because, with all due respect, “Ain’t nobody care about all of that.” Literally, why am I a part of a conversation that is teaching me to tailor my words, actions and even thoughts to the happiness, pleasure or ego-boosting of another person? There are far too many things affecting the world today to give a conversation like that the light of day. At least from my end.

Still in the same category is all the “ladies these days should,” “women of these days no longer...’ It doesn’t matter the place. If it’s somewhere I can’t just walk out of even if I’m hearing something unsavoury, like the Church, for instance, best believe you’ll be seeing a scowl, dilated eyes with a topping of, “someone should let me out of here. Fast!” expression on my face. You want me out of a place really fast or you want me losing my cool, calm demeanour in 0.5 seconds flat? Begin a discourse that revolves around the above, or worse, be misogynistic with that discourse, you will get the reaction you seek.

But no, I don’t blow my top off or start yelling ‘cause that’s not very classy, and we’re not about that life. Anyway, that’s about it. Love that I blew steam off a bit with this. In the worst of days, writing is such an anchor, isn’t it?
