There are two major things I suck at understanding: Mathematics and Football.
I can get inspired to do anything in life but definitely not these two.
I hate maths, and I suck at it. My brain has refused to accept it no matter how hard I try, so I had to give up. Not all battles are meant to be won.
For football, I am still unable to crack the code. The idea of a bunch of adults running and jumping from one end of the pitch to another just to get the ball in the net is still a mystery for me. Getting agitated for not winning still baffles me to date, apologies to everyone football fan out there.
Today was one of those days when I had to sit through not just one match but several matches. If I survived today, trust me, I can survive anything!
So the NGO I’m volunteering for organized a football tournament for under-15s. The major goal was to nurture grassroots talents. Players from different parts of the state competed, and we had over 16 teams. I watched each and every one of them play without fully understanding what was going on. It sucked that of all things they chose to organize it was a football tournament.
While I sat there staring blankly, I couldn’t help but think about football and children.
I saw little children play on the pitch today, and I was flabbergasted. I kept wondering how they were able to do it. I know it’s constant practice and all that, but how are their coaches able to teach them from scratch as little children? That’s yet another unanswered question on the long list of questions I have in my head.
While watching others applaud and cheer these players, I couldn’t refrain my brain from thinking about so many things.
From the conversations and questions that were asked, I discovered that children's football was more serious than I thought. Getting to hear how these kids travel around the country and even outside the country to play football was inspiring.
You mean all these matches I see them play aren’t just for playing's sake? They are serious and people make a career from them from such young age?
Hearing about how different organizations catered to these young lads was heartwarming. Having people who believe in your dreams from a very young age is priceless.
If there’s one thing I learnt about today, it would be knowledge, knowledge is truly power.
The world has truly changed. To a lot of parents, football is no longer seen as a waste of time but is seen as a successful career worth giving a shot.
