I have a best friend who's a female, let's say she's more like a sister to me now. We are so close that we tell each other everything, and it was just pure friends' love. I remember the time she was so eager to introduce her man to me. Her dad only has female children, so having me in their family made me like the only male child in the family. She told him
He has to approve you also, because he is my brother.
He even thought I was a biological brother because we grew up together, and when it comes to pictures, we have so many pictures together, too. We all went for a program, and her man walked up to me and said, "I would like to propose to your sister tonight, but she doesn't know yet, and you are the only one that knows."
I was shocked but happy at the same time, so I started meeting the anchor of the program we went for, met with the operating person, and started planning something on time. It went well; he proposed and she said yes.
Now, that's not the story I want to talk about. Here is the story. Recently, I wrote an article in this community talking about the steps one needs to take before getting married to a female in the Yoruba land, Nigeria.
After my best friend and her man had done everything, we prepared for the introduction party, where the guy would bring his parent and other family members and introduce them to the girl's family members. This time, it is the girl who would host them.
On the day of the party, I had dressed up in my white attire and my sunshade. When I got to the place of the event, I walked straight to the hightable and sat there. People who didn't know me from the guy friends were asking who I was, and some other people, but I did not even move. If anyone wants to move me, they should bring a tractor.
I saw some ladies going in and out of the house, so I went in to check what was happening inside. I saw my friend doing makeup and dressing up her headgear or tie. I started laughing at her because I have never seen her on such heavy makeup. She was laughing too, and the makeup person asked. "Is that your brother?" she was like "Yes, na. So you don't know my brother."
By the time I went back to the hightable, some people were already sitting there. Like her dad, mom, and grandparents, who all know me to be part of the family. They called me and I started greeting the guests one after the other like. In a few minutes, all attention was on me because I know all her cousins, uncles, aunties, church members, practically everyone who knows her knows me, except for some of her friends in school.
I had to excuse myself to the back seat because the day wasn't about me, but my friend. You know how Eniola and Pricilla's friendship was like, yeah, that kind of friendship thing.
I had already withdrawn 5 thousand naira and changed them into 200 naira notes.
When it was time for my friend to dance out, I saw people going to spray her money so as her bestfriend, I shoot up, dip my hands inside my pocket and I mistakenly remove all the money I had change and spray it on her not knowing I would still need to come out and spray more money.
When it was time for them to introduce each family member of my friend's side of the family. Her sisters were called out one by one, cousins, uncles, aunties, and when I thought it was over, I was called out specially, and people started screaming my name. Normally, when you are called out, you would go out with some cash and place them in a bowl.
The way people were screaming my name, it was like I would put millions of naira in each bowl. God have mercy. I came out, deep my hands with confidence into my pocket, and found out that there was no money left. Eye push me.
I use style to ask if I could do transfer knowing fully I have no money in my account, and I had to do something. So one of her cousins came to me and put some money in my hands. I dropped it and asked for the account number of the Mc, just to show I had levels, too. Anyway, till date I haven't sent it because I forgot where I wrote the account number.
After the party was over, I asked that my food be put inside a takeaway food container. As soon as my food was served, I took picture with my friend and her man, and escaped that place before someone ask me, "Have you sent the money?"
It was a great day, and I enjoyed it.
Thanks for reading. My name is Fashtioluwa.
