Not Settling for Less

We all have desires in life; big dreams and aspirations that could seem overwhelming and unbelievable. We could dream them, but the mere thought sometimes could make it seem like just a dream, and so, let it remain as such. With resilience and tenacity however, the dream can become a reality. As real as anything real, it can be.

No one would settle for less, I genuinely believe that. Though the actions of many could speak a different language, with all their utmost desire, no one would. The line doesn't cut a large boundary between those who have not attained not settling for less and those who have. Probably, it was just that moment of a spark; that instantaneous moment that triggered something inside of such persons, and made them utter and commit to a sentence, “I must make it in life.”

Okay, in my part of the world, we hear that a lot. It has become one of the greatest motivations today, especially for the youthful and teenage minds. For whatever reason-because yes, there are several reasons many make and take this statement to heart-it keeps finding a place in the minds of lots of young ones as a drive for success.

Sometimes, all it could take for such an utterance and commitment is one incident, one event, one exposure and realisation that binds it in the heart. As mentioned, many reasons could drive one to make such a decision. Mine was nothing far from playing a fulfilled and enriching life. Most times, when we hear people say that “I must make it in life”, we make the injunction about making money alone. Well, it could seem to be so.

Truth be told though, making that money too is necessary. My decision and the desire to make it in life stemmed from something beyond that. Right from time, humanitarian and charitable services have always got my attention. Later in life, I got to understand better. It was a call to a fulfilling life by nourishing and enriching that of others. Several exposures and engagements have made me decide that making it in life was a “must” for me.

Like when a couple of friends and I visited a hospital one time. Seeing the state of the patients made us feel their pain. I felt they deserved more health care services, which I considered they were not getting. Then visits to orphanages, and outreach centres gave me a stronger grip on the necessity to prevail and be successful. The children need more, they deserve more, and I consider as well from such outings.

Maybe I'm even going too far. Right from the society I come from, I've seen many underprivileged children and families, and the schools they attend made me wonder if they are getting the best out of life. The government are certainly living up to their tasks. I knew that people like me and everyone who could stand and desire a change would be helpful one day. It did fuel the desire to make it in life.

It's much about impacting and blessing lives in any way possible for me. One thing I came to realise is that when we make such utterances, ignited by whatever gave rise to it within us, it will remain a burden in one's heart to accomplish. Yes, I've seen the need to make it in life. Much more for the needy, my friends, my family and the world.

Our government is not helping matters at all. Things are getting harder for people to survive.. it's hard to pay bills this days

Yes, that's true. That's why we need not rely on them or settle for that.
