Prank gone (horribly) wrong!

Pranks on the first of April are normal, given the name April Fools. I had an aunt who was a lot on the plus side. In my head, the ground shook when she walked. In fact, whenever we entered my uncle’s car, I always thought I could hear the tire on the side of the passenger seat groaning. One time, my cousin and I agreed to prank her for April fools. Best and worst decision I ever made.

That morning, my cousin told her she was coming over to my place. The plan was to get her out of the house and startle my aunt with bad news. So, she came over. We were like five minutes away from our places. We waited, giggling and discussing our mischief. After about twenty minutes, I ran like my pants were on fire to meet my aunt. Luckily (or unfortunately), she was outside talking with a neighbour. She saw me coming. She asked what was wrong as though she was on autopilot. As I practiced with as many fake tears I could muster, I told her that my cousin and I were playing and then she fell into a well.

It all happened so quickly. My aunt went from shrieking like a banshee to slumping cold. I broke out in a cold sweat as people began to gather. My insides turned to mush when the fear gripped me. Fear that I may have killed my aunt. They were trying to lift my aunt from the floor. It took six people to achieve that. Then they quickly resuscitated her and then I felt so small when people turned to ask me what I had told her. The friend who was there when I lied just replied when my cousin appeared. Apparently I was taking too long in pranking her mom.

As quickly as it fell apart, the truth came to light and I received the beating of my life from my mom. That was my first ever time actively indulging in an April Fools prank and it was also my last.
