Brakes or broken bones

(edited)

I've had lots and lots of unforgettable days but the most unforgettable one was when I first got my first bicycle. As a young boy, seeing my mates riding their bicycles had always made jealous. Especially when I'd put down my pride to ask for a ride. I wasn't friends with any of them so I didn't actually expect them to let me ride. But I'd still ask anyways.

After my uncle discarded one if his old bicycles, I ask to give me which he did. I knew the bicycle was faulty, but repairing it would surely cost less that half of the amount that i was going to use to buy a new one.

After taking the bicycle, I took out part of my savings to repair it and within a few hours, it was rideable again. But during the repair, I was told to repair the brakes also which I didn't budget. After thinking for a while, I told the man to leave the brake and do the rest.

Once he was done, I hopped on the bicycle and headed straight for a tarred road around my area for a speed test. You could guess that I've totally forgotten that the brakes were already gone, and that bicycle was damn fast. After getting to the tarred road, I adjusted my pants and started pedaling hard.

While the tarred road was not being used frequently by car and bus drivers and it didn't really lead to anywhere important, there were still some people that pass there with their cars. As a kid, my legs couldn't touch the floor if i was sitting on the bicycle, so I did what we normally call "standing". Its just pedaling without sitting.

I was going so fast that I started feeling like I was flying, immediately I got to the front of my street, I pulled the back brakes in hopes of a sharp turn looking cool but......... I pulled the brakes and turned and I was still going at the same speed. My heart jumped into my mouth because my street was a little kinda downhilI and the bicycle wouldn't stop until I hit something.

It would have been better if I could slow the bicycle down with my legs but, I wasn't tall enough to do that and I would get into a serious accident if I tried to put my legs down while doing "standing". I sped past my house and my brother shouted, telling me to stop so he could also ride.

With shaky voice, I shouted back that I didn't do the brakes. My brother understood immediately and started chasing me. I had stopped pedaling already, but the bicycle wasn't slowing down. The end of our street was closed off, although there are different routes within the street leading to different streets, the end was just a huge fence.

The road had already started getting leveled while I was approaching the end of the street so my brother had almost caught up. Just when it seemed like I was going to visit the hospital, my brother pulled the handle while holding the seat for balance and did a circle with the bicycle to stop it completely.

I got down from the bicycle, legs shaking like cooked spaghetti. I sat down on the floor laughing hard, I didn't know how enjoyable the dangerous ride was until I was saved. I can only smile when I remember how superheroish my brother was.

This is very relatable.
That wasn't a small bicycle, right? That must be the normal bicycle.
Learning how to ride bicycle was fun and speeding down the hill was another level
