My Pet Peeves

My Naija people!! How una dey!

English is no one’s father language. Sincerely, you can't know all of the grammar in this world. But the best of it all is the ability to be open to a learning phase. When you hear new things or encounter strange words, you add them to your book of grammar. If you keep them to practice, you get better with them. And if you decide not to, then you already have an idea of what it means.

Just like we were in pre-elementary classes no one knew all the grammar we speak when we are older. We happen to grow to learn them with time. Oooh, so the meaning of “amazing” is this.. ooh. So I can use “integrate” in place of this and this. That's how we learn.

When I read the prompt it was about pet peeves. I smiled and recalled somewhere I overheard the word before now. I haven’t used it in my conversation since then, but out of curiosity, I checked for the meaning online so as to be sure when I want to use it in conversation.

I thought pet peeves were about pets or animals one likes or dislikes. Since the word "pet" was there. But from the YouTube video I watched, it was about a guy and a lady having a blind date. So the lady questioned the guy about his pet peeves. He responded that his pet peeves are bed bugs. I was like? Does he like bed bugs? No that can't be.

In the comment section, I realized viewers were making jokes about his response to bedbugs as pet peeves, then I decided to check the meaning and it was still way similar but used in the wrong context. She was trying to know what he didn't like about people, maybe herself or others. But he felt an animal he disliked.

Anyway, since then I have been thinking about what my pet peeve was. I realized I have a lot of pet peeves. Sometimes I find it irritating when someone snoring so loudly beside me. Though I can accommodate it to some extent when it gets too much it disturbs my sleep or whatever I am doing at that moment and I find it irritating then.

Another one I don't like is when people crack their throats and then spit the mucus carelessly anywhere. Ooh. I so much dislike it, and it can even affect my relationship with such a person especially if the person decides not to change.

I haven't had any relationship issues with people about my pet peeves before. I try as much to accommodate them, though I will let them know that it’s something I dislike and most times they change on that aspect.

I have a roommate who sleep talks. He didn’t know he did that not until I told him and he found it hard to believe. But since I told him, he has been trying his best to reduce it. So cutting a relationship because of these things is not really worth it at times.

And on my end, I have got people complaining about me sneezing too much. I don't know if that's an illness, but sometimes it nearly cuts off my relationship with some people, especially during the coronavirus era. Sneezing became a problem for me, as they would think I had the virus.

Well, curiosity does wonders for the mind and it's lovely to see how dedicated you were to finding out the meaning and ensuring that you used the word in the right context. Very honest participation.✨

Yeah. Thanks so much. My Oriental 😂 🏃‍♀️.

Most times we just have to keep learning and not feel too arrogant, it’s the beginning of ignorance.

Thanks for the honest contribution

Maybe you sneeze a lot because your nose is very sensitive to pick dust particles, just maybe. Loudly, forcing mucus down the throat to spit it out is so disgusting.
