School memories can't be forgotten that easily especially when you get to meet those course mates you shared such memories with. There are lots of memories I can't really recall, let alone share but there is one that sticks and it was because I wish I could beat up that particular lecturer. Before gaining admission into the university, I was an instrumentalist in church (Trumpet major) and that instrument came with a lot of jobs you can pick from, either a concert player, play in church or during weekend functions but I didn't take any until 200 level when we moved to our campus. I didn't care at first until I was broke and started looking for ways to make money, one day someone I knew suddenly call me that my service was needed in one of the top event and funerals company which own a branch in the town, I was happy ehn because it wasn't easy joining the guys there and that means money. I went there the next day only to find out I was the youngest guy there, a bit intimidated but at some point, I was able to catch up.

First payment that day was more than I expected and I had to watch the whole process, learn their methods and all I need to know. I started attending event with them and it is always on Fridays and Saturdays and at times Thursday and Friday depending on the burial arrangement, through that company I started visiting different towns and states, it was all about the money at first but later I turned it into my little adventure or weekend vacations away from school and its stress. I can't forget the free food that came with it, to me, I was like "I have found a weekly side hustle that will run till I'm out of this school" since it covered all my bills in school until I entered 300 level and the worst happened.

We had this oversabi lecturer who was also friendly at some point, I didn't really know what really concern him with us, his main job is to just teach and get out. One fateful day when this particular lecturer decided to give us his rules and course outline, he was like "I have heard stories that you guys rarely attend lectures" and he will be very strict with us especially during attendances, so if you miss his class, you will definitely fail, he added, getting 80% means you have 30 marks and no test or assignment. I thought he was just joking, unfortunately when we got the timetable, his course was fixed on Thursday/Friday, I couldn't cry because that was major work day. At some point, I though I will find a way around it, skip class and ask my friend to just help me with the attendance but somehow I decided to attend the first lecture just to know how to start my plans. We all wrote the attendances and to our surprise after he was done with the class, this man pick the attendance and started calling the names one by one, you have to stand up and show him your school ID so he can confirm it is your name, at that moment, I knew it is finished and he wasn't tired, he did that through out the whole semester just to show us he wasn't joking. He was the only lecturer that always have a full class and I have to quit the side hustle since my grade is more important.

I can never understand why these lecturers go the extra length of stressing themselves to count the number of students actually present. That sounds exhausting.

It’s sad you had to quit something you’d grown accustomed to. Hopefully, after the semester you’d be able to get back to working with the company.
