My First Shocking Encounter as a Physiology Student

I remembered when I received my admission letter into the university after picking the particular course I wanted but saw something else, my first question was what is Physiology, I was confused and I had to google search it just to be sure it isn't Psychology, had I know, I would have opted for computer science. After the whole registration and medical test, we started attending lectures which was really stressful. apart from coming to class early and still ending up sitting at the back especially during general courses because we were so many and we won't hear what lecturers were saying because only few came to learn while others were busy making noise or doing something else. I remember when I came to class before 7am in the morning and I saw most of the seats occupied with bags and some students who were keeping space for their friends, that was when I realised this won't really work. After a while, we got the announcement that my faculty would move to another campus where they will spend their remaining 3 years, I was glad though because I get to leave my mom, have my own space where I will get my own freedom, at least know how it felt to be alone, then they also announced that we will be having an orientation in our campus just to know what our department is all about, meet our lecturers and other things.

I was excited but also curious because they mentioned something and the excos were laughed about it, ,not to scare us but to make us curious. The day came and they came to pick us all with the school buses, the journey took about 45mins and when I saw the campus, it wasn't as big like the main school, we went to the main auditorium and the introduction started, it was really boring but I picked what I wanted to pick until they said, from 200 level, you will be doing other course outside the department, since there is no way you can study the function of the human body (physiology) without knowing the structure of the human body (anatomy), then you will do a little bit of biochemistry, people were just shouting. So they took us to the anatomy department so they can show us around. They started from their anatomy museum and I was shocked a little, when I saw things I had never seen before. Legs and hands inside jars, saw placentas, fetuses, wombs and even a baby. They were like these are the things you will get to know about during your period in this school.

The memorable part was when they took us to the main lab, apparently they had turned off the generator connected to the lab, closed the windows so it will be dark and we won't see anything, all we could notice was darkness and foul smell. While they stood outside, they told all of us to put on our nose mask and enter the lab, well we did and they locked us inside, then they switched on the generator, what I saw that day ehn, fear catch me. We saw dead bodies lying flat on slabs, people were shouting that they should open the door, some fainted, some were vomiting before they open the door only for them to tell us "You are finally welcome to the school, this is where you will be working and these bodies are Cadavars which you will be experimenting on". Ahh, working on dead humans, are you guys serious at all. I couldn't sleep that night, I just kept thinking about the lab and what I saw and at the end of it all, we still work on them.
