Any group project might come up in school that might require several skill sets to help accomplish, and a group where each member is adequately skilled will definitely come out on top. Or the scenario might even be one that an opportunity presents itself, a life changing opportunity. The champion will definitely be someone that already has the skills that is required.
Before I got into college, an opportunity came for me to learn how to make clothes. At first it didn't seem like something I wanted to do before the opportunity came. But I went along with it. And along the line, I discovered that I already had some talent in the field. It was very easy for me to grasp the ideas behind any cut or seam that was made. The choice of fabric and finishing came to me like ABC. The tools felt like cutlery I've been using since I was born. The only tedious part was when a mistake was made and some part or even an entire work needed to be loosened and resewed. In fact, I think the second or third day that I started the training, I made a raffian skirt. It wasn't anything new, but I hadn't been where anyone was making it before for me to have learned, but I did it anyway. And I wear it till today. I've lost count of how many other problems I've been able to help others solve with that skill, even though it isn't what I'm actually doing now.
So yes, every student should learn as many skills as they can get their hands on. It is good to note that every person no matter the age, is still a student — a student of life.
