Someone I Will Always Remember

It's said that who a child will turn out to be largely depends on the combination of her environment and the people in her life that influence her development.

When I think of people I can never forget, I think I'm lucky enough to have crossed paths with a lot of amazing people who have had positive impacts in my life. Infact, if I start mentioning them they will be too many to talk about. That is why, in this post, I will simply talk about one particular person, how his influence has had such a great positive impact in my life. When I look back, I ask myself, what my life would be without having encountered this person.

I grew up in an environment where a teenager, especially a girl child, can easily be misled by a person whose only interest is how to explore her innocence.
But then I was lucky enough to have a teacher who not alone saw beyond their bullshits but took it upon himself to educate us in such a way that we can't be deceived. He was my special teacher during my secondary school days. My agricultural teacher from the class of JSS3 to SS2. He is one of a kind. A great parent and an excellent teacher who knows how to impact his knowledge in the best ways. He is not the do as I say kind of teacher but someone who leads by example.

While his colleagues back then focused mainly on teaching their subjects matter. And some were even into exploring students. This man went beyond just teaching agricultural subjects. He would spend part of his classes teaching agriculture and the remaining part will be used in talking about morality. Back then, while some of my mates acted like he was overdoing it, I appreciate his teaching of morality because I learned a lot from him and it saved me from a lot of trouble as I continue to grow. Even beyond my secondary school, his moral lessons are something I held dearly.

How can I forget someone who taught me how to value and cherish myself. Someone who taught me that there are consequences for all my actions. How to focus on my future and not let myself be led ashtrays by peer pressure. He was the first person to teach me sex education when other adults in my life shy away from the topic like it was a taboo to talk about such a sensitive but important matter.

Whenever I think about it, I feel lucky to have such a mature, honest adult in my life at such a delicate age. His moral lessons shaped me, refined me and taught me the importance of valuing myself. The importance of waiting for the right time to do certain things even when under pressure.
