Beveridge Park, Scotland in Summer Time

Hello Hello to all Hivers, Hivians, Silver Bloggers and anyone else reading this.

I hope you have been enjoying a joyous July so far ...

Beveridge Park in the Summer (1).png

This week's #sb-chronicles prompt number 3 ....

"Take us to visit a special place in your hometown."

It can be any place, a park, a house, a street, a building. Why do you like it? What makes it special for you?

As soon as I saw the prompt that @coquicoin wrote then I knew what she thought I would choose.

Of course Edinburgh is where I grew up, but not where I live now.

So I am taking this prompt as being where I live now.

I do love reading chronicles from others and thanks to everyone that shares their chronicles with us.

There are two special places which I love to visit and do so each week.

Closest wins!

From my house, it takes me 7 minutes to walk to the sea, but only 5 minutes to walk and be inside this park I am taking you today.

Introducing Beveridge Park in Kirkcaldy, Scotland

image.png

We had a Royal visit at the end of June. King Charles and Queen Camilla visited our town as part of war memorial centenary celebrations.

This park is where they arrived by helicopter.

It explains why the erected this bonnie new sign!

image.png

Beveridge Park is a beautiful Victorian park located in Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland. It was established in 1892 when Provost Michael Beveridge bequeathed 104 acres of the Raith Estate to the people of Kirkcaldy.

New signpost, thanks Charles!

image.png

As you can see the park features formal gardens, a boating lake, play areas, woodland walks and so much more that we don't have time to explore everything today.

The Rose garden

image.png

When we first moved to Kirkcaldy four years ago the roses were much bigger. However the council who look after the park are on a cost cutting exercise and have ripped up so much of the park, that I am sure Mrs Beveridge would be turning in her grave if she saw what they are doing. They did plant new smaller roses eventually.

These roses are only here for the Royal Visit.

image.png

Mrs T and I used to sit and eat sandwiches during the pandemic on that bench sometimes. The council have removed the wall that was around it as well as a bush that was a popular haunt with pollinators. And they replaced them with a few flowers. Of course they won't maintain them!

image.png

image.png

The Boating pond

The rose garden leads to the Boating pond.

We do have a fleet of big swan pedalos but I am not showing them today, they are on the other side of the lake with the play areas.

Dafty the Pomerian duck's grandson eyeing up the Swan family.

image.png

Of course I come to the park to feed the birds and animals.

I have often named the children of Mr and Mrs Swan as the pies and written about them often.

This year four cygnets have made it to this safe stage of development.

image.png

Like father like sons

Just like humans, bird children learn by copying their parents.

So stop fluffing giving your kids your bad habits people!!

image.png

image.png

Stump formerly a gorgeous tree, thanks council!

Yes you guessed it, there was a big tree growing here, this spring they chopped it down.

Actually if you look to the right you can see those white swan pedalos.

image.png

This is another feeding spot I drop off oatmeal and bird seed.

However Mrs T went in under a bush to throw food and whispered Ed Ed come here...

image.png

Can you see why she was excited ...

A gorgeous wee not so ugly duckling!

Thankfully mum and dad were keeping out of harms way. The seagulls don't go under the bushes where he was.

image.png

image.png

Back around the pond and I call this ...

Coot Corner

I love the coots and we are getting more and more every year. Do you see their pointy sharp beaks. They are mean fluffers and go after the seagulls!

The young still get fed by their parents and they are almost the same size.

image.png

Meet Chalky another new star of the park.

This year we received a white duck, who has been named Chalky!

It is very rare you see white ducks in the wild, so fluff knows where he came from.

He is a hit with the brown Mallard ladies though!

image.png

You can see the big island in the middle of the boating pond as another little duck family lead is to another part of the park.

image.png

image.png

image.png

Mrs Beveridge memorial garden

image.png

It is all thanks to Mrs Beveridge the wife of the Provost of Kirkcaldy who pestered her husband to leave some green space for the citizens of Kirkcaldy to enjoy some outdoor activities.

This fountain is in her honour.

image.png

One of her favourite animals was the beaver and if you look at the animal on the fountain ...

image.png

... it is a beaver.
image.png

Squirrel park

The squirrels love to eat and this year have been particularly hungry for some reason as have all the birds too.

image.png

All these pictures have been taken this month are so really are Summertime pictures of what life is like!

What is life without bees...

image.png

Houston we have liftoff!

Talk about a cool action shot, this almost was a perfect shot and yes he is taking off!

image.png

Flowers galore!

image.png

image.png

Peace Garden

image.png

The Peace Garden in Beveridge Park is a secluded area designed for reflection and tranquility. It features an obelisk with inscriptions and symbols relating to different religions, aiming to foster understanding and connection between diverse communities.

May Peace Prevail on Earth

image.png

Guess what the council did to the peace garden .... We used to have beautiful hedges and where you see the flowers. Yes another magnet for the bees, then they ripped them up and planted a couple of flowers!

What the Peace Garden used to look like!

I took this picture on 15th March 2022

image.png

image.png

Galloway garden

This was another part of the park that saved us during Covid.

image.png

However, it has a bit of a sad history to it.

image.png

THIS GARDEN IS DEDICATED TO
THE VERY PRECIOUS MEMORY OF JAMES GALLOWAY
BORN KIRKCALDY 1924 DIED KIRKCALDY 1993
AND HIS DEARLY-LOVED NEVER-FORGOTTEN WIFE

HELEN GALLOWAY

BORN GLASGOW 1924 DIED TORONTO 1974
WHO SPENT 25 HAPPILY MARRIED YEARS
IN KIRKCALDY BEFORE AN ILL-FATED EMIGRATION
IN 1974 TO CANADA. IN 1991 JAMES FINALLY
RETIRED TO THE HOMETOWN HE LOVED
AND MISSED, NEVER AGAIN TO LEAVE.

Reading a book while feeding the birds ...

image.png

Part of this prompt is answering why ...
Remember those bloody lockdowns... well this was a haven to escape to!

Watching the magpies talk to us!

image.png

Young robin watching the magpie intently

image.png

Paths everywhere with so many photo opportunities!

image.png

Green-veined White butterfly

This wee beauty posed for me!

image.png

Bumblebees rock

Just beside the butterfly was this bee.
I mean really, talk about joy bringers!!!

PXL_20250709_135609263.jpg

image.png
More trees...

image.png

Orchard

Yes we have a little orchard and this year ....

image.png

... we have apples!

image.png

image.png

The orchard leads into the woodland area of which we have numerous walks...

image.png

This one is Wizard's Walk

image.png

Sir Michael Scot

Sir Michael Scot, a historical figure from the 13th century who was a scholar, philosopher, astronomer, and translator, and whose reputation became intertwined with folklore and tales of magic.

image.png

He has been given a fresh coat of paint so I am glad about that.
image.png

We shall finish here. There is so much to see. We have not even gone past the waterfalls, the bowling green, the motorbike track, the miniature railway, the skate park, the lions, the exercise machines, the kids play area, the putting green, the kale garden and more!

Yes there is a heck of a lot to do that gives me and everyone that comes here so much joy!

image.png

What about you? What's one small, simple joy that consistently brightens your day?" Let me know in the comments! And why not join in with the fun and start your Chronicle!?

Thanks for visiting and enjoy the rest of your day!

As well as being my silver chronicles 3 this post is also this week's walk for #wednesdaywalk which was inspired by @tattoodjay and as it is Sunday today and a gorgeous day to be alive , this is also for #SublimeSunday is inspired by @c0ff33a and #BeautifulSunday is initiated by @ace108.

Those creatures have their own space and place in the pond or they fight for territories? πŸ˜πŸ˜›. It's a beautiful place to visit and relax for a while😌😌

The seagulls think everything belongs to them, but the big swans push them out of the way when needed. The ducks are pretty mellow and go everywhere like the squirrels lol. Yes it is a relaxing place, as soon as I go through the gates I am in chillzone!

Seven minutes to the ocean and five to that beautiful park. What more could you ask for in life?
Thanks for sharing, dear @tengolotodo. A big hug from Maracay.
Happy Sunday.

Awesome photos! Such a fantastic park, the doggo loves it! Nice place for a walk, as long as it's not a 'park run' day! Gotta watch out for the stampede of fitness addicts !LOLZ

0.00068131 BEE

Yeah it is a fantastic place and the pups love it. lol those fitness addicts do get in the way when they have their days.

0.00153464 BEE

Fair play to them, at least they're getting out and keeping fit. The closest I get is walking across their path, sometimes at pace, trying to avoid them haha!

Hey @tengolotodo you are welcome.
Thanks for using @worldmappin 😘

I see why you call this your favourite spot! I see. It is so beautiful and yes, those are bad bad habits. I haven’t seen a white duck in a while. That wee one was sooooo cute.

0.00067261 BEE

It is usually only a farm or something that we will see a white duck or on the telly!
Yeah it is a cracking spot and that reminds me I need to order some mealworms! Yeah the wee one is so fluffing cute...

0.00000000 BEE

Hi, @tegolotodo

What beautiful photos! I enjoyed the abbreviated walk in that park where the birds seem to be the protagonists. I thought it was a wise decision that you wrote about the city where you live now, and not your hometown. You know, in my chronicle, I could not back it up with photographs. It would have been another thing if I had chosen to write the chronicle in the city where I live now. Of course, I did capture them with words, but perhaps, it is not too much to share images according to the adage, a picture is worth a thousand words. And this, your post, is loaded with many excellent ones.

Thank you for sharing with us a beautiful place that invites us to visit. At least, in the imagination.

Many greetings, and may this week that begins bring you, above all, health and good things.

0.00000000 BEE

It was such a beautiful place. It feels like I was there with you too. Thank you for sharing this! :)

0.00000000 BEE

Beveridge Park looks amazinggg 😍 Like something out of a cozy movie. All the little animals, the flowers, the old trees (even the chopped ones 😭), and that squirrel?? Literal Disney vibes 🐿️✨

0.00000000 BEE

lol the squirrels are cute wee things and come right up for food. Disney vibes, that is so cool!

0.00000000 BEE

It is very clear why it is your favourite place. I think it could be a lot of people's favourite place. I find it so hard to find trees, animals, places to be these days. Here there is a park very similar, but it has become very unsafe: behind every bush there can be danger. I am delighted to have seen so many flowers, animals and fruits. I thought the apples were pomegranates. So short-sighted of me! hahaha A relaxing hug!

0.00000000 BEE

Yeah going there at night or in the dark is a different story so I know what you mean behind every bush... Pomegranates we don't grow here lol A big Monday hug Nancy :)

0.00000000 BEE

I love the idea how short of time it takes to get to the ocean and that beautiful park. Like,i mean who wouldnt choose that kind of house? You made a good choice @tengolotodo. Such a beautiful place.

0.00000000 BEE

Exactly it is a great location, but like anything you pay for it lol

0.00000000 BEE

Wow! that is a very wonderful park. I love the rose garden because I love different colors of roses and the peace garden is very nice to just sit on the the grass and enjoy the place.

0.00000000 BEE

Roses are pretty and I love the different colours that you do get. It really is a wonderful park, thank you and have a wonderful day :)

0.00000000 BEE

at last.. there is mr squirrel again.. i haven't seen him for quite some time :D

0.00000000 BEE

What a nice park to visit, especially on a nice day like this.
Great to see those wildlife around.

0.00000000 BEE

What a wonderful tour of the Park, Super Ed. You didn't surprised me with the place you chose but you did wow me with the ride, Eddie Wildlife's sceneries and friends in action. πŸ’™πŸ’™

The duckling looks so cute, how lucky Mrs T found him. And Chalky looks to be the new darling of the pond, hehe.

If life ever takes me to Scottish lands you can be sure that Beveridge Park is on my list, Super Ed ;) You are lucky to have such an oasis of peace and nature just a 5 minute walk away.
