The famous Nigerian Afro Fusion musician Omah Lay recently made headlines for buying a property in one of the affluent neighborhoods of Lagos State. News reports state that the house is worth 500 million naira (500m). Half a billion naira, to put it in a rich man's terms.
After experiencing the glory, I have a routine where I delve further into the lives of the people. I then started reading practically everything I could find about Omah Lay online.
I learned that Omah Lay was a member of a musically-inclined family. Prior to his passing in 1976, his grandpa played percussion for renowned highlife singer Celestine Ukwu, and his father was a well-known drummer. Because he disobeyed COVID-19 Guidelines and performed at a performance, he was detained in Uganda. I discovered a lot of fascinating information about him, but his first position was as a cleaner in a recording studio.
If we post job openings, the majority of people won't apply for cleaning jobs unless they are in reputable oil companies, banks, etc. Cleaning is regarded as a degrading occupation for the lower classes. In other words, cleaning tasks are crumb-eating jobs.
If there was a better offer in the studio, I don't think the son of a reputable drummer and the grandson of a well-known percussionist to the great Celestine Ukwu would have accepted the position of studio cleaner.
It was Omah Lay's ambition to be a successful musician. He realized that in order to do this, he would need to surround himself with individuals who shared his values, aspirations, and passions as well as those who were already leading fulfilling lives. He required a setting that would allow him to explore his talent, inspiration, and enthusiasm. The cleaning operation (crumb) was therefore just right.
Omah Lay claims that he worked as a cleaner at a recording studio to help launch his career in music production. Any recording artist who, like Cookie Lion, has a solid understanding of musical production will undoubtedly have a successful career. Did the studio cleaning job accomplish its goals? I'll let you respond after I briefly discuss some of Omah Lay's musical accomplishments.
American music label Warner Music Group has a recording deal with Omah Lay. His debut EP "Get Lay's" was an instant commercial success in 2020 and was the most streamed Afrobeat Album on digital stores like Audiomack, Deezer, and Apple. Omah Lay is the first African artist to be highlighted by the Africa Rising Initiative launched by Apple Music. He was nominated for Nigeria's Next Rated and was named Apple Music's Favorite New Artiste of June 2020 thanks to this EP.
The adage "know your worth and don't provide a discount" means a lot to me. But you must understand that something whose value has not been established is useless. In the eyes of mortals, a worth without a success story is worthless, yet perhaps in the eyes of spirits. Although self-worth is beneficial, it is insufficient on its own. It might instill confidence, but it won't turn you into a resource. People value you based on what they have seen you do, not what you claim you are capable of, so when they do that, you become an asset.
It is better to take advantage of an opportunity to establish your value; if the opportunity is in a closed-off chamber with no windows or doors, crawl through a hole to enter. If there is no more room aboard the bus taking you to your destination, sit on an attachment and stand if necessary. Reaching your target is more essential than how you got there.
Omah, who was formerly a studio cleaner but is now a great musician who can buy a property worth half a billion naira, is still a young man.
If owning a school one day is your goal, consider accepting the crumb of a cleaning job with enthusiasm.
If being a chef is your desire, take advantage of the kitchen assistant position in the restaurant and enjoy it.
THERE IS GRACE IN THE CRUMBS.!
The guy was very determined and humble enough to become a cleaner in the studio. A position that several persons overlooked now look where he is today, its really not a surprise seeing his hardworking background. Thanks for sharing so well boss.
Humility is one virtue many people seem to lack. They don't look at the future... they're only interested in eating their future now.
True word sir!!! Got a lot of value from this. Thank you for sharing
