Curiosity Killed The Cat: Exploring The Harmful Effects

When it comes to being curious, like our wants, it is insatiable too but there is an extent it gets to depending on each human and what they've gone through before. I thought I was a very curious lady, like I wanted to know everything that did pass by me until I met even more curious people.

Curiosity is fine until you notice you're harming yourself or people around you when you get curious about what you're not supposed to, I read somewhere that excessive curiosity could cause privacy invasion, damage to relationships, manipulation, especially emotional distress.

How does being curious come to these harmful effects? When do we have to limit our curiosity to not get it to the harmful state? While that depends very much on the individuals involved, there is an example I'd love to share, coming from the experiences of others and myself.

We had once lived in a neighborhood that everyone seemed to do many things together like a large family of neighbours, everything was fine until a new neighbour moved in and it turned out she wasn't the type to be in such a communal relationship with others, it was understandable.

Well, if only she had minded her business since she didn't want to be like we were, but she started some heart breaking investigation about every person in the neighborhood, only bringing out the actions anyone would think was bad, evil or wrong about any neighbour that she targeted.

How she manipulated some neighbours to know about other neighbours and do the same to the other neighbours and get the good and bad info about the people in the compound, it was really manipulative. At a point, she started visiting every neighbour in their houses to find out more.

Snooping through people's things, asking intrusive questions and exploiting weaknesses found, she succeeded in her unwanted investigation as she kept turning neighbours against neighbours. It was an whole movie when a big fight happened after a long time in the neighborhood and she did paid dearly for it later.

One thing I noticed about her was, she had a very smooth and innocent way of talking. Showing the act of "I'm just curious" when she's actually being excessive but the people out of ignorance and maybe old wounds, gave in but it was all to a person who couldn't control her level of curiosity.

In a very personal experience, I had once been curious about how girls are able to have so many male friends gift them money and expensive gifts when I was younger. I got so curious that I followed a friend to see what she does, I ran away like a child when I found out her own way lol. I haven't been curious about it since then.

We just have to know when to be curious and not be at all, keep it in check always because you never know who will get harmed when you let it play out. For me, I find it even stressful to be curious about what you know isn't really your business but you can't surpress the curiousity.

Curiosity can be positive until we begin to cross our boundaries, feeding our minds with unnecessary things capable of affecting us emotionally

That new neighbor is an intruder born out of curiosity, it never ends well with them either way

I have met someone like that in school. Always wanting to know other people business.
Also, in a relationship - guy and the lady are meant to love and trust each other but I feel it’s bad for one party to go through the other person phone or private content without asking first.

Things like this always lead to distrust and eventually turns them against each other

Yeah, curiosity happens in many ways and excessive actions will only hurt the parties involved.

Hehe. I can understand it as I also have seen some people like that. I try to keep quiet when I meet with such kind of person and listen everything carefully what they say as I try to defend me using their own word when necessary.

That's a good strategy, those people can be unstoppable sometimes.

Curiosity kills the cat. Being curious for other things is better than being curious with your follow human.
