With the wildcard weekend now over in NFL football, I thought it might be interesting to log into The Second Season and see how my team is doing. I'll be honest, when my brother in law first mentioned Second Season to me, I probably wasn't as interested as I should have been. @mrsbozz and I agreed to participate in it, but we weren't really sure what we were getting into.
After the first weekend of games, I am totally hooked. I actually found myself keeping the screen open pretty much all weekend and as each game progressed, I was watching this team or that team rise to the top of the rankings.
Looking back now, I really screwed up when I was making our teams. You wouldn't know it given the fact that @mrsbozz is sitting in first place an I am sitting in second place after one weekend, but I have a feeling I screwed up and that is going to be short lived.
You see, as teams lose, they are no longer in play, that means their players are no longer in play. That means if all your wide receivers get taken out in the first round, that is a ton of points you are going to end up losing in future weeks.
While I was looking at players and trying to figure out who was going to get me the most points, I also should have been looking at teams and trying to figure out who was going to lose. It's pretty obvious that kickers and defenses (usually) don't earn you that many points. Picking those players from a team that I had a good feeling wouldn't make it to the next round would have been smart.
I wasn't paying attention though.
You can see from my wife's team that she already lost a quarterback, two wide receivers, tight end, kicker, and defense. On top of that, one of her wide receivers she lost was one of her top scoring players over the weekend. That's going to be a tough loss to absorb. The good news is, she did good losing her defense and kicker.
I, on the other hand may have not fared so well. I lost a running back, three wide receivers, my kicker, and a tight end. That is a lot of points to be sacrificing there. I have a feeling we aren't going to stay in the top too much longer. Plus, with only seven games left in the season, that doesn't leave us a lot of time to make some big moves. Each of us will be losing four players after this next weekend.
I just hope the other teams made some of the same blunders I did. The one solace I have is that since the top seeded teams had byes last weekend, we might get a chance to see some big players rise to the top this coming weekend. Who knows where that will leave us!

These are problems that I never had in Fantasy. I only was a contender just once in all the leagues I have been a part of when the playoffs hit... and that was the year that I lost interest in the league and forgot I was even part of it and didn't change my roster for something like 9 weeks straight... and my random-ass team did much better than it would have had i been managing it! That was a kick in the gut haha
I can only imagine. I'm still on the fence about whether or not I am going to try and use AI next season to manage my team. Part of it feels wrong, but I did so horrible this year, I can't imagine things getting much worse!
