NCAA Football Week 8: All the Upsets!

Although my Saturday morning was spent catching a chill at the softball fields, the rest of the day was on fire with college football games. As the title implies, it was a day of huge upsets and I can't wait to cover all of them with you.

Well, all of them in the top 25 anyway. If I covered the whole NCAA landscape it would take me several posts across the whole week!

Let's get some of the easy stuff out of the way first. #1 Oregon (more on this later) took down Purdue as I expected they would. In fact, the poor Boilermakers didn't even score a single point. Ooof.

#11 BYU had a close game against Oklahoma State, but they came out on top 38 to 35. Perhaps the close score is part of the reason that the committee hasn't seen fit to push them in to the top 10 yet.

#9 Clemson had a win over Virginia 48 to 31, and #21 Missouri beat Auburn 21 to 17.

I'm not the kind of person who is afraid to admit when I am wrong. In the case of Nebraska, I was totally wrong. I thought sure they might give Indiana a run for their money, but I was wrong wrong wrong. Indiana #13 remained undefeated and took the Cornhuskers down 56 to 7. It wasn't even close!

I have a feeling Indiana fans are just as upset as BYU fans about being left out of the top 10. Both teams are still undefeated which after this weekend is a rarer thing.

The sad part is, Nebraska doesn't even have a chance to bounce back as next weekend they head into Columbus to face the #4 Ohio State Buckeyes.

#23 Army remains undefeated with a win over East Carolina 45 to 28. Likewise, #6 Miami stays lossless with a 52 to 45 win over Louisville. You might remember that was another game I thought might go the other way. At least this one wasn't a blow out. I was almost right....

#12 Notre Dame beat Georgia Tech 31 to 13, and #24 Navy also stays undefeated with a win over Charlotte 51 to 17. I was talking to my brother in law this weekend and he pointed out that if Army and Navy continue to do so well, they are likely going to have to play each other two weeks in a row. First for the conference championship and then the next week in their long standing rivalry game.

Michigan finally drops out of the top 25 after a 21 to 7 loss against #20 Illinois. This was one of the games I called correctly and I put some money on it just for some icing on the cake! With a big win over Iowa this past weekend, Michigan State might have the momentum they need to take down Michigan this coming weekend at the in-state rivalry game.

#7 Tennessee beat #15 Alabama even though Bama was the favorite to win that game. The finally score was 24 to 17 Volunteers. Meanwhile, #14 Texas A&M had a 34 to 24 win over Mississippi State.

#8 LSU beat Arkansas 34 to 10, and #16 Kansas State took down West Virginia 45 to 18. #10 Iowa State just squeaked past UCF 38 to 35, and #22 SMU beat Stanford 40 to 10.

Finally, remember I pointed out that Oregon was now the #1 team in the nation? That's because #2 Georgia took down the former #1 team Texas. Texas falls all the way down to #5 after their 30 to 15 loss against the Bulldogs.

You might want to take some time this week and catch your breath, because I have a feeling next weekend might end up being just as exciting.
