As I stated in my post the other day, it is that time of year that hoops start taking center stage. Sure, football is still going on, but we are on the downward side of that season now and before long the holiday bowls and playoffs will be long behind us. My niece played her first scrimmage the other day with her high school team and she said it went really well.
The "littles" as @mrsbozz and I call them (our nieces and nephews who aren't in high school) are all involved in winter basketball leagues and I think we are going to down to watch some of the games this weekend. Our friends son and daughter are also playing basketball this year last we heard, so we will likely be traveling to the next town over to watch them play as well.
It's a lot of running for us, but I honestly don't mind. It's fun to watch the kids skill levels grow. This time is going to go by so quickly. I can't believe I am soon going to have two nieces in university. I met the one when she was three years old and the other I have known all her life.
Michigan State won their basketball game against Niagara last night as I would have hoped. I think the final score was something like 96 to 60. That's a good game. I think we all know that the competition is going to be heating up before too long though. Check back next week when I cover the college games that have taken place in the top 25 basketball realm.
For now though, let's talk about football.
With just about six weeks left in the college football season, things are really starting to heat up. Is Indiana going to stay undefeated? Will they be able to fight their way into a playoff spot? I think this weekend will be a good window to that when they face Michigan. While Michigan's 5-4 record might not look like much, it could be argued that Indiana hasn't faced any real competition yet this year.
While Michigan State should have put a stop to that talk, they didn't, so Michigan will have to do as a sloppy second. This will likely be the biggest challenge the Hoosiers have faced so far. A win in Indiana could be huge for the Wolverines. I still don't see them in the playoffs, but they might get a nice bowl bid out of it.
As far as other games this weekend, (23) Clemson at Virginia Tech could be a good game on Saturday. Definitely tune in to watch (3) Georgia head to (16) Ole Miss. both teams have seven wins and are just one off from each other on losses. It could be a good game. (25) Army remains undefeated as well and they take on North Texas, so that will probably stay the same after this weekend.
(20) Colorado at Texas Tech could be a good game as well. If the Georgia/Ole Miss game ends up being a dud, be sure to tune in at 7:30 EST for the (11) Alabama vs. (15) LSU game. That one pits two 6-2 teams against each other.
(9) BYU has a game to remain undefeated as well against Utah. Utah has a 4-4 record, so this could be a lopsided game, but you never know.
If you get bored of football, be sure to tune in to some college basketball this weekend instead!
