Yesterday, my husband checked if our taro plants was already good to cooked for our dinner, since we are craving for food with coconut milk on it. I suggested that we had a taro stew with coconut milk or what we call “ginataang gabi” on our local.

My family on my mother side really loves this dish, whenever there are occasions, this dish would always be present on our tables. This time I will just cook very simple and easy but of course I will cook it with all my heart for my family.

The ingredients are very simple. You will only be needing 200 grams of coconut milk, 3 tbsp. of fish sauce, seasonings, dried fish, ginger, 5 cloves of garlic, onions and stem and crop roots of taro.

First step for this procedure was to sauté the chopped garlic, onions, dried fish, and ginger. When the aroma is already out, add the chopped taro then add about 2 ½ cups of water. Then cover for about 3 minutes.

When it was already boiling you can now add the fish sauce and the coconut milk, stir for about 1 minute then cover and cooked for at least 3 minutes more.

Then we have it, my taro stew in coconut milk or “ginataang gabi”. It’s been a while since I ate these dish and I'm cravings satisfied again. You can also add some pork meat on this dish. You can also cook the leaves of the taro by drying it under the sun then cooked it with coconut milk we call that dish as “ginataang laing”. If you want it spicy you can also add some chili flakes on it.

I can’t think of a dessert after our dinner so, I just fried some ready to cook lumpia and for the sauce, good thing we had some sweet and chili sauce on our kitchen. This lumpia taste good together with the sauce. I hope I can learn to make a sweet chili sauce so that we wouldn’t buy it at the market if we want a sauce like this.

That’s all my dear hivers of this community who loves to share food recipe’s. Till’ next blog 😊.

Sincerely, @saijan19
