People actually do these funny and dangerous things for the sake of social media clout. This is one way social media has been harming us. People would go to these extents to do unimaginable things at the risk of the one life they have. You asked an important question; say they get the social media attention and following they wanted, would they keep risking the one life they have for that audience, who when they're gone will move on with their lives as if they never existed? It's not really worth it. And yes, you can build that visibility through consistent hard work on content that doesn't endanger or put your life at risk.
