Why is it so hard to finish a book, or to finish a series, game, movie you've been partially watching, a project, and all the things we love? Even a horror book where you know the inescapable ending is so damn painful to reach to the end you might as well pretend it doesn't exist. But its always there lingering in the back of your mind. The names of the characters that were once alive in your head, always repeating the same scenes, waiting for your return to let time run through them. In your head, they are eternal, if you keep reading, they are not. Is that what you've wanting? eternity? To keep this parassocial reality that kept your sanity for a few minutes as if they were real?
As long as you are alive, the media is alive. Is what you tell yourself. But things always perish somehow, or rather change forms into what no longer is. If you're going to pretend this world you're reading about doesn't have a history then why not read unfinished stories? See cancelled series? Waait that's too sad. To have a future ahead of you and get abruptly stopped by an uneventful accident or fate! Right? You still want them to have a future, you just don't wanna know about one future you are incapable of knowing. As if being a viewer or bystander grants you any power to interact with them. No. This world is completely out of reach, that's precisely why your grip is so tight.
At the end of everything,
Hold on to anything.
By Night in the woods, a game i never wanted to finish and i am still waiting to forget so i can play again.
mother of vermin
That soft warm and dark autumn atmosphere, nonhuman characters so comfortable to the eyes, so well developed that seem more human than you. The illustrations and colors combined just enough to keep you engaged in a childhood fantasy with a dark undertone, where nothing is what it is. The refreshing reality of every character being an adult. Of some of them being playful. On how this seemingly small town full of secrets and even some gore seem so appealing to live in. At this game, you are Mae, a cat who came back to her hometown without warning. You will meet her old friends, town, family, dreams and whatever happened in the past that still haunts her till this day. And if you find him, maybe get a glimpse of some constellations on top of houses. I mean, you are a cat, of course you can do parkour!
This entire game deserves an article on its own, all the other characters are so unique it hurts to not press the replay button to see more of them. But this is where i finish my monologue with no clear answer. Of course it's matters to give stories their respective ending. You can't deprive them of finality cause this would be like erasing part of their memory. That is, if they matter to you. Ending is closure. You need it to sort things out in your brain, good and bad ones. This last memory doesn't erase the other adventures living in your mind. So for respect, for the love of something you left behind. Go back and finish it. - ON night in the woods. I can't say much without spoilers, this is one of those games you have to play and find out on your own, they are attractive because of their mystery. Then you stay because they are fun.
Now Sharkle will tell bye bye !
