Lets Take A Short Hike

On the sentiment of cool indie games that are interesting and have nice mechanics, if before i gave you a cat who does parkour, now it's time for a bird who flies! I mean silly right? All birds fly. But again, a non human character where you control Claire, who can run, climb, swim and glide! It's one of those games to play for relaxing after a hard day with some characters and stories to interact that are rather wholesome. In game you have to find golden feathers to increase your abilities for climbing rocks in your hiking. But why ? Why would a bird hike.

Well Claire is on some of task her mother and her aunt May who works there as a ranger put her up to, a family tradition to hike and get to the top of Hawk Peak Provincial Park's mountain. Her mother drives her there, then her aunt takes her in telling her there is no sign reception in the park except from high places, and she is expecting an important call. So she takes the challenge. But when i tell you this game is cute and cozy it's beyond me how this was even made by a solo indie game developer. My man really just went there and built this entire world, characters, mechanics, art, songs and gameplay by himself? And gave it to us for a fair price? You have a whole island to explore, the peak is huge with even some hidden lakes, caves and mini games as you talk to the other people hiking there. And all of them are so cute. It's unbelievable but it's true. I got obsessed over the making of this game and watched the GDC (Game Developers Conference) video of him explaining the world building, and i recommend you all watch it, is very interesting as well.

I hate to spoil the things i recommend, so all i can say is that this touches on self discovery, on growing on your own. It's not only some easy or hard task to climb a peak but a challenge and an adventure that everyone in your family goes. When you get there and realize you have done it after all the problems that got increasingly higher, you have finally accomplished the ending, now you can enjoy the view??? It's suddenly understandable why real people risk their lives hiking in the woods or climbing very dangerous nature settings just for the sake of seeing the sunrise. The beauty of nature, the strength from within you. Everything gets crystal clear. After that, it's easy to fly.
