John is feeling extremely depressed now, knowing that he has lost the deal to Jack purely due to bribery and corruption, he felt helpless.

To make matter worse, let's not forget John was externally hired to head the team by this company, he has many "foes" in his report as they were unable to be internally promoted to the post and in fact they lost to an "out of nowhere" guy.

John knows very well he will be judged and in such situation is especially so the first deal John goes out personally that matters more than any other deals.

Now John is feeling so condemned like a clown that even a presidential pardon would not be able to clear him of all the judgement.
