RE: €8 per Gallon. How Austria deals with sharply rising gasoline prices: Gas stations are only allowed to raise prices 3 times per week (before that prices could rise daily), 5 cent less taxes, and 5 cent forced margin reduction.
Here the increase has been much steeper. In Europe, almost everything is taxes, so they can reduce it by 60% if they want; it's just a matter of will. The price of oil has little to do with it.
